Sickening: Way Too Much Red

Notre Dame, Ind - On a day the team needed its fans support the most, it got it the least from a select group of fans.  When I looked at Notre Dame Stadium and saw all the red, it made be sick.  Nebraska had 4,000 tickets allotted but had to have had at least 20,000 fans in the building.  The announcers were joking that it a lot of Notre Dame fans sold their tickets to huskers, but its no joke - it flat out sucks.

This team has so much heart and played a great game, but at times one could not tell who the home team was.  Nebraska fans were roaring and were drowning out the Notre Dame fans at some point - this should never happen.   Notre Dame Stadium is the Irish's home and should be considered sacred.  Notre Dame should never have to play at home with 20,000 or more fans from the opposing team in the stands when they play at the house that Rockne built.

Knute Rockne must be turning over in his grave at the moment.  Personally, I hope that Bob Davie says something about the number of Notre Dame fans who sold their tickets. Also, if I were a player I would be pretty pissed off to see that many Nebraska fans in the stands.

While some fans were trying to do everything they could to support this team, such as ND student Eric Reichle who started a movement to get everyone to wear green or to anyone who participated in the fan tunnel that we tried to organize, others were busy selling their tickets to the highest bidder.  I guarantee you that next year this won't be the case in Lincoln since most Nebraska fans will tell anyone trying to buy their tickets to go watch the game in a local bar.

The end of the game was very disappointing, but the fact that so many Notre Dame fans sold their tickets was much more disappointing.   Nebraska was probably laughing at all the red they saw and at the Notre Dame fans who sold their tickets.

I am sure I am not the only Irish fan who feels this way.   Millions of Notre Dame fans would have given their right arm to be at this game which is what makes the whole situation so much more disheartening. As a Notre Dame fan, I was hurt to see that so many "fans" valued the almighty dollar more than supporting its supposed beloved Irish.

The team played its best game in years, but did so in front entirely too many Nebraska fans.   If any alumni requests tickets then sells them, they should not be given any tickets the following year.  Notre Dame Stadium is for Notre Dame fans and no one else.  I feel the majority of Notre Dame fans feel this way as well.

There was not nearly as much maroon last week as there was red this week.  In fact I would estimate that there was three times as many Nebraska fans this week than Texas A&M fans last week.  Hopefully those who have tickets for next week's Purdue game will keep them as a sign of respect for a team that played their hearts out today.

The "Green Movement" and fan tunnel were almost negated by the number of Nebraska fans in the stadium.  Hats off to all the fans who were at the game, wearing green, and going crazy.  To all those that sold their tickets to Nebraska fans - 1.) if you are going to sell your tickets, please do so to Notre Dame fans and 2.) redeem yourself next week against Purdue and go crazy at the game because this team deserves all the support in the world!
