Notre Dame, Ind (UHND.com) Due to the absolutely tragic events from yesterday, Notre Dame and Purdue mutually agreed to not play their scheduled game for this weekend.  A make up date has been scheduled for December 1, 2001.

There was a lot of speculation in the past 24 hours as to whether the games would be played.  Some conferences have decided to play while others have not.  The Big Ten decided to let the schools decide, but Purdue and Notre Dame decided not to play and I support that decision.

I see boh sides of the debate. If you don't play you let the terrorists win by causing more disruption. On the other hand, there are more important things in life than football, and this tragedy certainly is. If it were my decision, I think I would choose not to play as well out of respect for those those hurt and affected by the attacks. Some people may say that we should move on, but I think there is a time of mourning that must be observed. How long that period should be I don't know, but I do support the decision of the Notre Dame not to play. Let's also not forget that the players themselves may not want to play and while it is easy for others to say play, none of us know the attitude of the team and are in no place to say whether or not they should play. ESPN reported that a lot of NFL players don't want to play this weekend and I have to think that there a lot of college players that don't want to either.

I would also like to express my condolences to any viewers who have been affected by this tragedy and was glad to see some of the New York posters posting on the board yesterday.  I would also like to thank the countless people who have volunteered to help the people of New York and Washington as well as the brave men and women who have risked their lives and those that have lost their lives trying to help.  The police and fire departments of New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania where the fourth plane crashed have done everything in their power and they should be commended.
