Notre Dame, Ind (UHND) - The AP is now reporting what Blue and Gold Illustrated reported Friday and what Morris Goldberg has been saying for weeks, Bob Davie is fired after five seasons that produced no bowl wins and yielded the 3rd worst winning percentage among Irish coaches who were here for three years or more.

Bob Davie had stated on Friday that these reports were not true and reiterated that yesterday, but the staff was told today that they have been fired. A news conference will come at 3:00 ET today on ESPNews and ESPN2 to make the formal announcement.

The news may be news to no one except Bob Davie since everyone else saw the writing the on the wall. Kevin White had given Bob Davie and staff no formal statements of support to the media since early in the season. Since the early part of the season, White had been very quite and was careful not to show too much support for the head coach.

Bob Davie leaves with a 35-25 overall record as head coach of the Irish. During his five years he had two losing seasons (1999: 5-7 and 2000: 5-6). During his five years he also produced no bowl wins in three games. Only one of these bowl game was competitive. In 1998 Notre Dame lost 35-28 to Georgia Tech in the Gator Bowl. In 1997 though the Irish lost 27-9 to LSU in the Independence Bowl and then lost last year 41-9 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Check back throughout the day for more updates after the press conference.
