Bill Diedrick will be Notre Dame's new Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback's coach. Bill has been at Stanford for four seasons and has averaged 30.4 points a game which would help out the Irish offensive a lot. He also averages 422 yards of offense a game. His past coaching jobs consist of coaching the Quarterbacks at Washington from 1994-1997 and being the offensive coordinator from 1994-1995. At Washington St. he was the Quarterback coach and the offensive coordinator from 1989-1990. At the University of Idaho he coached the Quarterbacks and receivers from 1986-1988 and was the offensive coordinator those same years. In 1984 and 1985 he was the Quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Montana St. At Whitworth College he was an assistant coach and offensive coordinator from 1982 to 1983. Before his college experience he coached 11 seasons as a high school coach.

Trent Miles, the new receiver coach, will be a great asset to the Irish offense. Trent has a lot of experience as a coach. He has been to many universities as Fresno State (Wide Receiver's coach), Hawaii (Wide Receiver's coach and Defensive back's coach), Northern Illinois (Wide Receiver's coach and Defensive back's coach). He also has a couple years of pro football under his belt as a Green Bay Packer assistant coach. I think with Trent the offense will be able to spread out the field more and get the defense guessing on whether Notre Dame will pass or run the ball and that is what the Irish need to get a winning season.

John McDonell, an offensive line coach, should help the Irish line from jumping offsides, holding, or letting the defense pressure the quarterback. This is also another great thing Stanford had last year and Notre Dame was missing that. Too many times, Notre Dame would blow good field position because of a costly sack or holding penalty. John hasn't coached at many places but he has held high jobs at the two other universities he worked at, not including Stanford. At Weber State and Washington State he held positions such as offensive line coach, tight end coach, and he was also an offensive coordinator.

Greg Mattison the coach on the other side of the line is the only coach returning to Notre Dame another year. Greg the defensive line coach has coach at Notre Dame for many years and has taught the Irish defensive linemen a lot. The Irish defense was 10th last year and to be a national championship team they will have to step it up to 5th or 6th and don't be surprised if they do this. Mattison has coached at Michigan, Western Michigan, Navy, Cornell, Northwestern, and Texas A&M.

Mike Denbrock will come to South Bend the coach the tackles and tight ends. Mike was an assistant coach for the Arena Football League team, the Buffalo Destroyers. This is where is has learned most of his now know football knowledge. He hasn't been to as big as colleges as the other coaches but in their league they are well recognized. He was an offensive coordinator, Runningback coach, and Quarterback coach at Grand Valley State. He was also an offensive line coach at Illinois State. I know that this coach is in his prime and probably isn't was all you wanted for a coach put I think in a year or two he will be a great assistant coach for the Irish.

Trent Walter, a former Minnesota Vikings coach, has a short haul to South Bend where he will begin his new job as a defensive coach for the Irish. Trent will bring some NFL ideas into the Notre Dame defense and hopefully this year the defense might be able to make a few more big plays than they did last year. Trent has coach at many different college teams and one other NFL team. He was a coach for the Cincinnati Bengals, Texas A&M, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Washington, and a coach for the JV Indiana team. He should give the Irish defense a spark to keep on trying and never give up a yard if possible.

Buzz Preston another Stanford coach will be the new Runningback coach. He will coach Irish players such as Ryan Grant and Julius Jones. I am almost positive that he can turn these two runners into game breaking runningbacks. Buzz has been a wide receiver and defensive back coach at Southern Illinois, an offensive coordinator, and quarterback coach at UNLV. He has also coach at Hawaii and Washington State as a runningback coach and a special teams coach.

Kent Baer, a seven-year coach at Stanford, will be in charge of the total defense at Notre Dame next year. He has kept teams to only 84 yards in 5 games and averages only 109.6 yards given up as a defensive coordinator. He was a linebacker coach at UCLA, Idaho, and Utah State and from 1992 to 1994 he worked at Arizona St. as a defensive coordinator and linebacker coach.

The defense should step it up a notch and I think that if the special teams have a good season so will the Irish. If the special teams don't do so good like this year the Irish will struggle. Be sure to come to or watch the annual Blue Gold game to see Tyrone show off his new team, hopefully the National Champions.
