Tempe, AZ (UHND.com) — Charlie Weis was named the Football Writers Association of America / Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Sunday at the final pre game press conference for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Weis turned the Irish in his first season roaming the sidelines of Notre Dame Stadium. From day one Weis brought a winning attitude with him after winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 years as the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.

In his first season as a collegiate head coach, Weis turned the Irish into an offensive juggernaut with an explosive passing game - something the Irish had lacked under Tyrone Willingham.

Weis accepted the award at a Sunday press conference the day before the Irish will take the field against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on the same field they lost to Oregon State a season ago in the Insight.com Bowl.

Weis is the 3rd Notre Dame coach to win the award joining Lou Holtz and Ara Parseghian who both won the award once.
