Despite a late spark provided Evan Sharpley and the defense that had the Irish within 6 of the undefeated Eagles, Notre Dame failed to make their upset bid a reality. The Eagles answered a touchdown drive by the Irish offense, followed by linebacker Brian Smith’s interception return for a touchdown, with a 56 yard touchdown drive of their own. The Irish had a third, late touchdown nullified by a penalty, and the Eagles managed to hang on. More to come later.
