Video: Everett Golson In SI’s Week 3 Heisman Watch

Sports Illustrated’s Zac Ellis breaks down the top performances from Week 3 of college football action. Ellis thinks that Notre Dame’s Everett Golson is not receiving enough attention in the early season as he has guided the Irish to a 3-0 record heading into their first bye week of the season.

We talked about Golson’s growing Heisman hype last week noting that if Golson continued to win, he will continue to build more momentum going into Notre Dame’s October stretch where Golson will have multiple marquee games to stake his case for his Heisman candidacy.

As Notre Dame heads into the bye Golson has amassed 11 total touchdowns – 7 passing and 4 rushing – while not committing a single turnover three games into the season. Golson is also completing 64.6% of passes with 780 yards passing and another 83 yards rushing.

Golson should have a chance to pad his stats a little more when Notre Dame returns from the bye in two weeks against Syracuse before he gets his first real test of the season against Stanford. Two games later Golson very well could find himself in a Heisman showdown with reigning winner Jameis Winston. In short, even though Golson is getting Heisman attention now, that stretch of games will really determine if the senior quarterback has a legit shot at becoming Notre Dame’s 8th Heisman winner or not.

  1. his Heisman chances depend on his running game and defense, esp in the FSU head to head. O line has to create running opps or defense will key.
