Blake Barnett, Notre Dame’s 2015 quarterback commitment, was named MVP of the SoCall Elite 11 camp on Sunday earning the first invitation to the Elite 11 Finals for 2014 in the process.  That competition will take play in Oregon at the Nike Facilities during “The Opening” over the summer.

Barnett committed to Notre Dame back in November after visiting for the BYU game.  That visit was all it took Barnett, currently a 4-star recruit, to end his recruiting and select Notre Dame over Arizona, UCLA, and Cal.  Barnett’s junior season, however, had the elite quarterback prospect drawing interest from many more top tier programs.

Here are some Tweets from those in attendance about Barnett’s performance.

And here is some video of Barnett at the competition as well.

Barnett threw for 2,332 yards with 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 695 yards on the ground and another 13 touchdowns on 95 carries in 2013, his first season as a starting quarterback.  If Barnett continues to impress at passing camps and has another strong year for Santiago High School, Barnett will continue to move up the recruiting rankings.

Barnett is one of three members of the #ShamrockSoldiers15, the social media moniker given to Notre Dame’s recruiting class of 2015, along with offensive linemen Jerry Tillery and Tristen Hoge.

Current Notre Dame quarterback commit Deshone Kizer, a member of the #GoldenArmy14, participated in the Elite 11 competition at the Opening in 2013, but did not make the final 11 although he did flash his potential in the process.  Hopefully Barnett is able to impress and make the final Elite 11 rankings this summer.

Quarterback guru Steve Clarkson on Barnett:

““I think he’s just scratching the surface, and that’s the scary part,” said Clarkson, “It’s really scary.”

Clarkson offered that Barnett can fit in a variety of offenses, including a pro-style set as well as a spread.

“He’s got all the elements you look for in a modern-day quarterback,” Clarkson said, “but he’s got that cannon for an arm, he’s got great anticipation, he’s very adept at picking up line play and getting his team out of bad situations. His anticipation is off the charts. He is a kid that comes around once every 20 years with that skill set. He’s got a huge, huge ceiling.”

    Once every 20 years. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

and this just in: Blake Barnett intends to enroll early, which means that one year from today, VOILA! he will be in South Bend. Whenever Golson decides to leave, the quarterback battle to succeed him among Zaire, Kizer and Barnett will be a sight to behold. And by then we will have the accomplished and acclaimed receiving corps to receive their throws.
