Who’s Left on the Recruiting Board

Here is a really quick look at who is left on Notre Dame’s recruiting board this year.  We have less than 2 weeks till Signing Day and a strong finish could push this class back up near top 10 status.

  • Tyler Gaffney (FB) – I’d love it if we could add Gaffney to this class.  I keep thinking back to when Raeshon Powers-Neal was on the 2005 team and imagining what an atheltic, dynamic full back could do for this offense.  It looks like its down to Notre Dame and Stanford.
  • Byron Moore (S) – It would be great to pick up a decommit from USC this late in the game and it sounds like we have a good shot.  WeAreSC.com reported its down to just Notre Dame and LSU.  He’ll visit LSU next week and then decide shortly after.
  • Manti T’eo (LB) – T’eo is pretty much the make or break recruit for whether or not this class has a shot to land in or around the top 10.  If Weis can get T’eo’s signature on Signing Day it’s possible if a few other things go our way as well.  It appears to be down to Notre Dame, USC, and BYU.  Weis has done a great job recruiting T’eo and if he ends up landing him it would easily be the best individual recruiting effort we’ve seen out of Weis.
  • Jawanza Starling (S) – Notre Dame hosted Starling recently and apparently the visit went very well.  The Irish are definitely in the mix here along with Florida State and Georgia.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out with Starling and Moore.  It would be beyond huge if Notre Dame could land both here in the final 10 days of recruiting.
  • Jelani Jenkins (LB) – Pipe dream at this point.  He never officially visited and appears done with visits.

That’s about it.  If Weis and staff could land Gaffney, T’eo, and one of Moore or Starling this class would go from average to pretty good.  It would also probably shoot back up into top 10 range and would be a true testament to Weis’s abilities as a recruiter.

  1. Average? A top 25 class is still good and better than average by far IMOP. Top 10 looks better as we all know.

I just got done with Gameday at the JCC and was great. Now gotta wait until 6 for another round of Gameday and tip off 7. Wish the Irish luck!
    Go Irish

  2. im happy to see some recruiting news again. the sad thing is im not sure how good are chances are of landing anyone on this list. i hope im wrong, but i dont think our current class is that bad. it may not be as sexy as trhe previous 2 classes but there some solid guys. most of these guys, however are players that will need a year or two before really being able to contribute though. i really like zeke motta and carlo calbrese, give them a few years, i wouldnt doubt either of them becomes key parts of the team
