Notre Dame Picks up Another OL Recruit in Eric Olsen

(UHND.com) — Eric Olsen became the 17th commitment of this year’s Notre Dame recruiting class and the 2nd offensive lineman of the class joining Bartley Webb. Olsen, a 6’5”, 300 lb offensive lineman out of New York, picked Notre Dame over Virginia, Boston College, and Miami.

The offensive line is a major area of need and getting their second commitment from an offensive lineman is a good start for the Irish recruiting effort this year. Olsen is a big body along the offensive line and has a lot of room to improve.

Rivals.com lists Olsen as a 4 star prospect and the #22 offensive tackle in the country while Scout.com lists Olsen as a 3 star prospect. The schools that were recruiting Olsen are a better indicator that he’s got a lot of potential. Michigan, Miami, Boston College, and Virginia all offered Olsen.

Olsen is the second offensive lineman and is the second lineman who is projected as a tackle on the college level. Bartley Webb is also projected as a tackle with his size. As George West did at the end of last week, Olsen committed without taking an official visit and may be an indication that some of these recruits are seeing that Notre Dame’s class is filling up fast.

Notre Dame will most likely take 3 more offensive linemen in this class with the depth issues that face the Irish along the offensive line from two sub par recruiting efforts the past two seasons.

Notre Dame remains in the mix for big name offensive linemen such as Sam Young, Matt Carufel, Aaron Brown, Alex Stadler, Chris Stewart, and Butch Lewis among other linemen.

There was some concern on the Notre Dame boards recently about the lack of linemen in this class so far, but the Irish are sitting fine at offensive line and should get 5 linemen in the class easily.

With 2 linemen already in the fold Notre Dame has as many offensive linemen as they’ve had in each of the last two recruiting classes and we are not even out of September yet.
