Interstate rival Purdue comes into this weekend.  Time to get pumped up.

We’re gonna just come out right of the gates in a full sprint. Ray Zellars. No further explanation needed.

Next we have some highlights from last year.  I found two highlight reels – one with an ad and one without an ad.  I bring you the one without the ad because I care.

Notre Dame pulls out a miracle win in 1971 with the “Genuflect Play”

A look at this rivalry from Purdue’s perspective from a local news broadcast before last year’s game.

I’ve compared current return man George Atkinson to Allen Rossum a lot this year. Here’s Rossum being Rossum against Purdue in 1996..

I’ve also compared Everett Golson to Tony Rice a couple times. Rice was pretty damn good too.

In case you forgot, Notre Dame looked pretty good last week.

One of Oldie’s videos from the 2005 season. Miss those videos.

And there’s no way to do a Wake up the Echoes post for Purdue week without this play.

Highlights from the 2010 game – the first game of the Brian Kelly era.

I’ve already watched this about 100 times this week so why not.

A little trumpet action in the Dome to close things out this week.

    Awesome. Love the videos, Frank.

Nit: Should be “intrastate”, not “interstate”, no?

Purdue may think of Notre Dame as a rival, but we don’t think of them as one. Rivalries are special and you only have one or two rivals. USC is the traditional rival, with the Cocaines of Miami being a late modern one. A case could be made for Michigan, but they already have OSU and MSU. And really, ND losing to anyone like Purdue is just Notre Dame not playing up to it’s potential.

This is going to be competitive as Purdue looks better than recent years and we still don’t know what ND has. But it’s not a rivalry.
