Notre Dame Will Play Both Quarterbacks at Texas

Deshone Kizer and Malik Zaire were both named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Tuesday. (Photo: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports)

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has made a decision on the quarterback position – sort of.  Kelly announced on Wednesday that Notre Dame will in fact play both Malik Zaire and Deshone Kizer at quarterback in the season opener against Texas. Kelly would not commit to what Notre Dame will do at quarterback anything past the Texas game, but reiterated several times that both QBs will play.  Kelly stated that it was abundantly clear that both will keep making plays in camp and wouldn’t really be able to separate themselves. Kelly also reiterated once again that the offense is ...

Notre Dame Football Fall Camp ’16: Day 10 Video

notre-dame-practice

Notre Dame was back on the practice field yesterday after a day off on Sunday.  Fall camp is starting to heat up and position battles are still ragging at right guard and quarterback specifically but there is jockeying up and down the depth chart all over the place. Nice catch by Nick Weishar over Tevon Coney.  Coney is an athletic linebacker but Weishar had some separation there.  That is very encouraging. Walkon Lincoln Feist with some hands!  Sorry, with some hand there. Nice play by Cole Luke breaking up a wobbly duck thrown by Malik Zaire.  Luke should have had ...

Notre Dame Fall Camp ’16: Day 5 Video

Notre Dame Fall Camp 2013

Notre Dame was in full pads for the first time yesterday for their final day at Culver Academy.  Here’s the video and notes below. Hell of a catch by KJ Stepherson in the corner of the endzone over Julian Love Nice to see Nyles Morgan getting in the quarterbacks face and stuffing out a pass Equanimeous St. Brown gets open downfield on Troy Pride for a nice catch. Can’t tell who threw it based on the video, but there was perfect ball placement there. Oh yeah Malik Zaire made another play with his legs. Zaire can be a nightmare for ...

Notre Dame Football Fall Camp ’16: Day 3 Video

Notre Dame Fall Camp 2013

Another day at Culver Academy for the 2016 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and another practice video from the team at WatchND.  Let’s dive right in. At the 0;17 mark, Deshone Kizer throws another beautiful pass and Kevin Stepherson makes a great catch on the sideline.  In the limited video out of camp, Kizer’s passes look text book.  We know he throws a hell of a deep ball too. At 0;25, Jay Hayes is seen working on his pass rush moves.  If Notre Dame can get any sort of pass rush out of Hayes, the Notre Dame defensive line can be ...

Notre Dame Football Fall Camp ’16: Day 2 Video

Notre Dame Fall Camp 2013

Notre Dame was back at practice on Sunday at Culver Academy.  The Irish still aren’t in pads this early into camp, but the WatchND crew has a great video with some key plays from day two of practice to whet our appetites for football. They don’t have pads on yet, but WOW does Dexter Williams look FAST in the open field.  Williams gets lost in the debate of Tarean Folston vs. Josh Adams, but I just can’t imagine a scenario where Williams doesn’t have a key role this fall. Corey Holmes looked pretty good in space on the pass from ...

2016 Notre Dame Schedule Preview: Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech will make its first trip to Notre Dame Stadium this fall. (Photo: Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports)

Helping finish the home portion of the 2016 Notre Dame football schedule on November 19 will be the Virginia Tech Hokies. Beginning a new era after the retirement of Frank Beamer, new head coach Justin Fuente will be seeking to take advantage of the assets on the offensive side of the ball. That’s because that side of the ball was where Fuente earned his stripes. Virginia Tech Offense: Adapting to New Surroundings At quarterback, Fuente has experience in mobile senior Brenden Motley, though Motley will likely get competition from junior college transfer Jerod Evans. Fuente is more inclined toward the ...

It’s Official: Notre Dame and Michigan Will Play in ’18 & ’19

Kolin Hill & Matthias Farley

Earlier today reports leaked that Notre Dame and Michigan would resume their rivalry in 2018 after its ending in 2014.  This afternoon both schools made it official by announcing a home and home in 2018 and 2019.  Michigan will return to Notre Dame September 1, 2018 for the first time since being shut out by the Irish 31-0 in 2014.  Notre Dame will travel to Ann Arbor on October 26, 2019 for the first time since 2013. When news first broke of the rivalry renewal, we assumed that a Shamrock Series game would be the most logical meeting given Notre ...

2016 Notre Dame Schedule Preview: Army Black Knights

2016 Notre Dame vs. Army

One week after facing Navy, the 2016 Notre Dame football schedule points to the Army Black Knights under neutral circumstances at the Alamodome. This Shamrock Series return to San Antonio marks a flashback to where the series was inaugurated in 2009. The struggles facing Army head coach Jeff Monken this season are many, coming off a miserable 2-10 campaign. Given those troubles and a game against Virginia Tech on the docket one week later, the Irish have to avoid the inevitable tendency to look past this contest and put the Black Knights away early. Army Offense: Run and Run Some ...
