VJ Beachem Shines, Notre Dame Beats BC on Senior Day

Notre Dame continued their winning ways on Wednesday night as the Irish sent their seniors off in style and sent the Boston College Eagles home with their wings clipped.  Beachem led the Irish with 22 points in his final home game as Notre Dame knocked off Boston College for the second time this season 82-66.

Notre Dame fell behind by 10 points to Boston College earlier in the season before turning things around and winning.  Wednesday night was more of the game for the Irish.  Boston College jumped out to an early lead in the first half, but it would be short lived.  After falling behind a 26-19 lead with 6:46 remaining in the first half, Notre Dame went on a 17-2 run to end the half and never looked back.

Bonzie Colson was his normal, awesome self against the Eagles.  Colson racked up yet another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  It was Colson’s ACC leading 18th double-double on the season.  Colson may not win ACC Player of the Year this year, but if he is not an All ACC 1st Team, that is one investigation everyone would agree should take place.

Steve Vasturia, Notre Dame’s other scholarship senior playing his final home game added 10 points and 5 rebounds of his own.

Up Next For Notre Dame

Notre Dame has now won six straight games to improve to 23-7 and into second place in the ACC with a 12-5 record in league play.  Notre Dame will close out the regular season on Saturday on the road at #8 Louisville.  Notre Dame beat Louisville at home earlier this season, but a road contest against the Cardinals is a much more daunting task.

Should Notre Dame knock off Louisville on Saturday and North Carolina lose to Duke on Saturday night, the Irish would share the regular season ACC championship with the Tar Heels.  Louisville lost on the road to Wake Forest tonight losing their chance to lock up a share of the ACC championship of their own.

Not sure why they started off so slow in this game, but they found their mojo before the end of the 1st half and never looked back. It was nice to see some of the little seen seniors get on the court at the end. Thankfully the game was enough out of reach that Brey was able to put them in.

It was also interesting to see Patrick Mazza, a walk-on who was on the football team at one point as well as a walk-on. He was even able to score on a dunk and the fans were chanting for him to be put on the game.
