Shepherd and Darby were not going to ride the pines this year. All the talk was to land top level talent precisely because of the lack of depth. He thought he had it covered, he didn't. So, the hole he was attempting to fill is even bigger.
In addition, this is his third (?) recruiting class. He couldn't build depth with talent at the db position in three years? SC has, and hoke is well on his way.
He ought to have at least two stud corners in each class if he is going to be able to keep the pace with SC and UM under hoke and the staff he's put together.
