...the Navy offense works best when the opponent only has a week to prepare for it. And preferably after they had played some better teams, which would allow them to overlook the dirty Midshipmen.

The Irish will have lots of time to prepare for the option, and it is harder to overlook game 1.

All that said, this makes me very nervous too. South Florida did last year as well. And look how that turned out.
