Notre Dame had been projected to be a higher than a 6 seed, but their two point loss to Georgetown wasn’t enough to impress the selection committee. Their reward? A first round match with one of the more dangerous mid-majors in the entire tournament - Winthrop.
My first reaction is that this isn’t a great draw for Notre Dame. Winthrop is a team most people think could make a George Mason-esque run this year. The superstitious side of me prefers that the Irish aren’t a 5 seed because the 5-12 matchup generally produces the most upsets, but overall Brey and the Irish didn’t get much help from the tournament committee.

Three problems with the NCAA tourney commitee:
First off the entire Big East got shafted. Only six teams in? And only two of them with top 5 seeds? That’s ridiculous. Two, Notre Dame held G’town to a game winning bucket, and beat numerous solid opponents, yet we get a 6 and Maryland(who we beat soundly) gets a 4 after losing to Miami in the ACC tourney. Finally, Syracuse should be in. The owned Georgetown, held us tight, beat UCONN in the Big East tourney, beat ‘nova, marquette, and providence, along with finishing fifth in the Big East. Ridiculous.

The selection committees needs to be committed:
It’s not so much that they get the pairings fouled up but it always seems to be politically motivated rather than acumen and performance based. Look no further than the Big East men and women and look no further than the UConn woman’s team this year.

I have to retract my position on UConn women; I was looking at last years slections in the woman’s tournament. But not to belabor the point, what was up with Syacuse?

When you don’t shoot well from the line nor do you shoot well from the field it is difficult to put the blame on any one but your missed opportunities; but when the officiating facilitates inconsistant play by awarding the opponent more favourable calls to the point of being effusive and egregious something has to be said.
Who go paid off in this game?
The NCAA wanted Withrop and they got them.
I hope Brey says something because it happens every year in the final four and man it feels scripted. Effin maddening!
