Jimmy Clausen was added to the Maxwell Watch List along with 74 other NCAA signal callers this week.

Clausen was one of 26 quarterbacks to make the list and one of only three sophomore signal-callers honored (a total of 12 sophomores made the list). The 6-3, 212-pounder started nine of the 10 games he appeared in last year and made his mark on Notre Dame’s freshman passing records. Clausen started the second game of the 2007 season, the earliest any Notre Dame quarterback had started at that position since freshmen regained eligibility in 1972. He completed 138 of 245 passes for 1,254 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions in his rookie season. Clausen ranks second on Notre Dame’s freshman quarterback single-season lists for completions, attempts, yards and completion percentage.

It’s nice to see that Jimmy is one of only three sophomores on the list.

The last Notre Dame quarterback to win the award was Brady Quinn in 2006.

Will Clausen make it past the watch list and be a quarter or semifinalists for the award? I for one wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed on the watch list for a little while.

they sure didnt put him on for last years performance but for the fact that with a fixed arm, added muscle, better oline, and more expierenced wide receivers his skills will really show

    Kevin,

Clausen’s 2007 season is not nearly as bad as most people want to think it is. For as “bad” as things were Clausen still have more TD’s than INT’s as a true frosh – something that not a lot of true freshmen could do with ND’s line, backs, and receivers last year.

It is an honor to be put on the list, but how big of an honor; really…you’re considered in the top 75 of 110 QB’s…congratulations!

    @ Frankie V

Not only did Clausen have more TD’s than INT’s last year, he arguably had a better frosh year than Brady Quinn. Brady threw for a frosh records for completions (157), attempts (332), and yards (1,831). Also threw for 9 TDs and 15 INTs.

Clausen completed 138 of 245 passes for 1,254 yards, 7 TDs and 6 INTs with an atrocious OL.

To be named to the Maxwell list is an honor and lets hope Jimmy shows how deserving he is in the fall.
