Senior offensive tackle/guard Paul Duncan will miss the remainder of the 2008 season after having some cartilage repaired in his hip this morning.

Paul Duncan this morning had his hip — he had cartilage repaired in his hip. He’ll be gone for the year. We had that done this morning. We had several questions about this over the last bunch of weeks, and we decided over the last week to go ahead and have that done, so we had that done this morning. He’s fine, and everything went well. But he’ll miss the remainder of the season.

After starting all of 2007, Duncan had yet to see the field this year for the Irish behnd starting left tackle Michael Turkovich.  Because Duncan has not played at all this year and will miss the remainder of the season, he would be eligible for a 5th year in 2009.  Turkovich will be gone next year so Duncan would have the opportunity to compete for the starting left tackle position with Matt Romine.
