The warmup for tomorrow night’s matchup with Boston College was a hockey match between the #12 Irish and #2 ranked Eagles. Notre Dame beat BC on the ice tonight by a score of 4-1 behind some pretty impressive goal tending.
For the third time in the last five years, the Notre Dame hockey team has visited Boston College to face a highly ranked, high-powered team at Kelley Rink in front of a sellout crowd of 7,884.
And for the third straight time, the Irish walk away with a victory against the Eagles, stopping them 4-1 on Friday night on the strength of outstanding goaltending from senior Jordan Pearce, strong special teams play that held BC’s high-octane power play off the scoreboard and chipped in a power-play goal on the way to the team’s third consecutive road win.
It seems as though Notre Dame hockey is to Boston College what Boston College football is to Notre Dame. In the last 6 meetings, the Irish have beaten BC four times, tied once, and lost just one time. Boston College was ranked #1 in the country for three of those losses. Unfortunately for the Irish hockey team, the only loss among those six games came in last year’s NCAA Title Game at the Frozen Four. Still, considering all of the times Boston College has dashed Notre Dame’s title hopes on the gridiron, it’s great to see the Irish hockey team knock off BC on the ice.
Hopefully the Irish see similar success on the football field tomorrow. My late night prediction for the game is Notre dame 35-17. BC’s offense is not very strong and the Eagles haven’t faced a passing attack like the one they will see tomorrow yet this season.
