Came across this video today courtesy of Jeff of Shaquelle Evans committing to Notre Dame and then talking about why he committed to Notre Dame. Pretty good stuff from one of the biggest recruits in this year’s class.

Here’s some mid-season highlights from Notre Dame’s latest verbal commitment including a brief interview on ESPN where he shares the screen with fellow Notre Dame verbal Cierre Wood.

When asked to describe his play Evans said, “I’m fast.  I’m explosive.  I can stretch the field.  I’m a player maker, I can change the game.”

Yeah, sign me up for a wide receiver like that.

After watching yesterday’s defensive performance I thought we could all use a little video of Notre Dame’s lone defensive line commitment so far - Tyler Stockton - so I went searching and found this clip.  Stockton is very impressive on film.  He explodes off the line and is in the backfield pretty quickly.  He has a very good swim move and straight up bull rush.

Considering Stockton is an early enrollment candidate, there is a chance he sees the field early next year considering our depth along the defensive line.  While Scout and Rivals aren’t as high on Stockton, ESPN has him as their #2 defensive tackle prospect.  Something to consider here is that last year at this time, ESPN was also a lot higher on a certain DT committed to ND than Scout and Rivals.  I won’t mention his name, but I think you all know who I’m talking about.

Anyway, here is the video.  Enjoy.  Help is on the way.

Here’s the highlight video produced by “Oldie” for the 2006 Notre Dame-North Carolina game.  If you haven’t ever watched one of Oldies videos and have an hour or two, check out all of them because they are all pretty much awesome.  Unfortunately it doesn’t seem Oldie will be producing videos this year, but his archives are still online.

Let’s hope there are enough big plays for the Irishtoday that another highlight reel like this could even be possible.

After hearing sports talk radio hosts like Cowherd hate on Weis last year during the 3-9 debacle it’s kind of funny to hear Cowherd (who is the voice in this video) gush over Weis in 2006.

Here’s a nice highlight reel from TAKKLE.com of Shaquelle Evans.  In cast you missed it earlier this week, Evans is now favoring Notre Dame after previously being a soft commitment to USC.  If Weis and the Irish can close the deal, it looks like Evans would be another great receiver to add to an already young and promising receiving corps.

Pretty fair analysis from CBS. They picked North Carolina to win the game, but most of what Spencer Tillman had to say was pretty accurate. This is going to be a hard fought game and will be a very tough test for the Irish.

Edit: CBS decided to disable embedding for this video.  You can view it over on YouTube if you’d lile.

Saturday will be 23 years to the day since Notre Dame’s last trip to Chapel Hill to face the Tar Heels.  In that game a sophomore quarterback came off the bench to jum start a struggling offense as the Irish trailed 14-7 in the fourth quarter.  That sophomore quarterback rallied the Irish to a 21-14 victory with a touchdown pass in the final minute of the game.  The following week, that same sophomore quarterback came off the bench in the fourth quarter again to rally the Irish to a 31-30 victory after trailing 30-10.

That sophomore quarterback was Joe Montana.  Here’s a video of Montana rallying the Irish to victory over North Carolina on that Saturday afternoon in October of 1975.

Here is an ode to the victory march by none other than Beano Cook.  Seriously, how has this guy been labeled a Notre Dame homer?

And here is a nice background video produced by the University.

CBS posted their preview of this weekend’s game and I gotta say that I think it’s pretty spot on.  This will be a very tough game for us to win and we’re going to need to force some early turnovers and have a fast start to have a good chance.
