Notre Dame released the finalized details for their football schedules for the next three seasons on Friday after having to do some shuffling of the deck over the last few months with their new commitment to play five ACC games a year going into effect next season.

Some of the shuffling done by athletic director Jack Swarbrick ended up having to do revolved around the 5-game a year ACC commitment actually being a 4-game commitment for 2014 and a 6-game commitment in 2015 because of prior commitments Notre Dame had for 2014 before the agreement with the ACC.  Notre Dame had already moved a game with Temple originally scheduled for 2014 and tried to opt out of their trip to Arizona State for next season as well, but ended up coming to a compromise with Arizona State.

With the 2014 now set, the Irish will play 4 ACC teams next season – North Carolina, Syracuse, Florida State, and Louisville.  Louisville and North Carolina will travel to South Bend while Notre Dame will play Syracuse at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State.

As many expected, Michigan’s final scheduled trip to Notre Dame Stadium on September 6 will be a night game for the Irish.    It will be one of two night home games for the Irish in 2014 along with the Shamrock Series game.  Earlier this week it was announced that the 2014 Shamrock Series game would pit the Irish against Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

2014 Schedule

  • Aug. 30 Rice
  • Sept. 6 Michigan (night)
  • Sept. 13 * Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Ind. (night)

  • Nov. 1 vs. Navy (FedEx Field, Landover, Md.)
  • Nov. 8 at Arizona State
  • Nov. 15 Northwestern
  • Nov. 22 Louisville
  • Nov. 29 at USC

With only four ACC opponents in 2014, Notre Dame will play six in 2015 – Virginia, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Clemson.  Virginia, Clemson, and Pitt will be road games so mark your calendars for September 12th when the Irish visit Charlottesville for the first time.  Charlottesville is an awesome college town that will make for a great road trip for Notre Dame fans.

A visit from Texas will open the 2015 season while a visit Austin will start the 2016 season for Notre Dame. Mark your calendars for September 3, 2016 as well because Austin is just an awesome city and since it will be Notre Dame’s first trip there since 1995, that game is going to be a heck of a road trip as well.   Aside from the visit from Texas, a trip to historic Fenway Park to take on Boston College in the Shamrock Series highlights the 2015 schedule.

The 2016 Shamrock Series game will have Notre Dame heading back to San Antonio the site of the first Shamrock Series game in 2009 when Notre Dame faced Washington State at the Alamodome.   2016 will be the first year Notre Dame will play 5 ACC opponents after the compromise to play four in 2014 and six in 2015.   Notre Dame will make its first trip to North Carolina State and will host Virginia Tech for the first ever meeting between the two schools.  Other ACC games in 2016 include another contest against Syracuse at Met Life Stadium and home games against Duke and Miami.  Miami’s trip to South Bend will be their first since 1991 while Duke played in Notre Dame Stadium as recently as 2007.

  1. FWIW, when irascible Frank Howard was at Clemson, not exactly the Oxford of the South, he used to call the SEC the “Knucklehead Conference.”

For Saldana, I would first get in contact with the local Notre Dame Club in San Antonio and establish a contact there who will be aware of your family story and situation. As a backup plan I would contact the Alamadome and explain your situation and see if there are special accomodations for the Handicapped.

Third, if you’re an Army vet, contact the local recruiter and see if he/she
can pull some strings to help a local vet out.

Fourth, call the local paper and start papering the head football writer and see what the writer recommends.

  2. I am a resident of San Antonio TX, and I would like to know when it would be possible to purchase tickets for the Shamrock Serious Game scheduled to be played in the Alamodome on Nov 12, 2016. My family and I attended the first game played here in 2009. We are trying to purchase early enough to get seats together. There will be eight of us and two are handicapped so it will be difficult to obtain tickets were we could be seated together. I’ve been a fan of Norte Dames since birth (1947), thank you so much for your assistance.

  3. We needed a QB coach ——————- very much!

Please start with the BASICS — I know. I saw the resume and th personal background with BK. I am 75 years old —– hurry up – Please

    Boston Baseball Atlanta

  4. The only thing missing is an SEC team here or there–
Good Lord Above–I hope we have a stout defense–
    lots of styles of play–
I hope Mark May stuffs this in his stocking and in the place where the sun doesn’t shine.
At 9-3 or 8-4 these schedules are still more respectable than anything other midwestern teams can put on–

    1. For those who do not know-

      SEC = Football (Not)Education
      ACC = Education (and)Football

      … welcome to the South

  5. Tough, tough looking schedules for the next couple of years. These are beginning to look like elite schedules. We had better hope that BK can turn this group of student athletes into elite talent.

As always, the current recruiting class looks very strong as well as the 2015 class that is starting to come together, but we now need to see development. The Irish need to find a way to sign all of their commits and not have them defect at the 11th hour.

I hope that BK is the guy to build a lasting, nationally competitive team. The schedule looks more daunting than it has in quite some time so we will see how it all comes together.

    GO IRISH!!!

    1. I agree very tough looking schedules!!! But, with BK behind the helms i think we will see success in the near future.
Bk demands dominance and you can see that from him week to week. There’s some strong talent coming to ND, and BK will turn them into THE ELITE that all ND fans want to see.
With these new schedules and fresh talent, ND will reign supreme once again!!!!!!!!

      GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Why back to back chop-blocking teams in 2016? Injuries?

Haven’t we learned our lesson from this year playing consecutive option teams?
