Autry’s Den: Coming of Age

As I finish watching the end of Purdue game I could not be more satisfied with the effort our team showed today. As individuals we are defined by how we respond to the adversity we face in our lives. Last week our young Irish team was dealt a big blow in the loss in East Lansing to the Michigan State Spartans. After the MSU game there were only two choices that our team could have made; take it as call to have a gut check or bury their heads, quit on the season, and let Purdue have their way with us. UHND Opponent Poll - Week 5
2008 UHND Opponent Poll - Week 5 Opponent Last Game Next Comments 1. Southern Cal Trojans (2-1) L, 21-27 - Oregon State vs. #23 Oregon (10/4) Frank : Wow. I did not see that one coming. There is really no excuse whatsoever for USC to lose to Oregon State. Ever. USC’s second string is probably more talented than Oregon State’s first. OSU [...]

Balanced Attack Throttles Boilers

The Irish returned home to Notre Dame Stadium yesterday and improved to 3-1 on the season after a 38-21 win over Purdue.  It was a game highlighted by superior play in all three phases of football at different points throughout the game.  While the win was an important one, this young team still has plenty [...]

Frank’s Purdue Preview

Notre Dame will try to rebound from last weekend’s 23-7 loss at Michigan on Saturday when intra-state rival Purdue travels to South Bend to take on the Irish.  Last week Notre Dame’s offense sputtered and struggled from start to finish and managed just seven points.  Will a matchup with the Boilermakers be just what the [...]

Turnovers, Mistakes Plague Irish Offense in Loss

(UHND.com) – Notre Dame lost its first game of the season on Saturday when they traveled to East Lansing for their yearly matchup with Michigan State.  The Spartans held the Irish to just 7 points in a 23-7 Irish loss while their star running back Javon Ringer rang up 201 yards on the ground.  The [...]

Frank’s Michigan State Preview

After a week hiatus from my weekly previews, I’m back with a full preview of this weekend’s game against the Spartans of Michigan State.  Notre Dame will travel to East Lansing for their first road game of the season Saturday against a team which beat the Irish 31-14 last year in South Bend.  Will the [...]

Michigan Win A Building Block for Young Irish

Notre Dame, IN (UHND.com) – Notre Dame’s win over Michigan this past weekend was a step in the right direction for a Notre Dame team trying to rebound from last season’s nightmare of a season, but it wasn’t the “signature” win some people might want to make it out to be.  It is what it [...]

Marlon Pollard 6-1 160 CB Cajon, CA **** ****
UHND's Take: Notre Dame got a corner with some very good coverage skills in Pollard. He will need to put in his fair share of time in the weight room to be a factor in the run game, but as a pure cover corner, he is very advanced technique wise for a high schooler.
Nicholas Tausch 6-1 180 K Dallas, TX n/a n/a
UHND's Take: Notre Dame gave Dustin Hopkins a deadline to make his decision and when he stalled, Weis gave Tausch the offer. Tausch jumped at the offer and is said to have the more accurate leg.
Ben Turk 6-0 185 P Ft Lauderdale, FL n/a n/a
UHND's Take: Turk is considered by some to be the best punter in the country and with no kickers taken in this most recent class, Weis decided to targeted a kicker and a punter.
Alex Bullard 6-4 275 OG Brentwood, TN **** ****
UHND's Take: Bull is an absolute monster of an offensive linemen and has the versatility to be able to play tackle if he continues growing. As is, Bullard is a top notch OL for this class.
Dan Fox 6-3 215 LB Cleveland, OH **** ****
UHND's Take: Fox is a rising recruit who has a lot more speed and athleticism than most people give him credit for. Fox will play OLB and hails from the same HS as Robby Parris and John Ryan.
Carlo Calebrese 6-2 225 LB Verona, NJ **** ****
UHND's Take: Calebrese is a run stuffing MLB who will need some help in pass coverage. He is very physically advanced for a HS linebacker though and could see the field early.
