Cierre Wood Guarantees We’ll Beat USC the Next 3 Years

Cierre Wood surprised some people when he committed to Notre Dame as early as he did with the success the Irish have had recruiting the running back position the past couple years, but it appears that the Southern California native is more than sure of his decision. In a recent interview with Jamie Newberg of Rivals.com Wood says that not only Notre Dame is a great fit for him, but that the Irish will beat USC the next three years.

“We are going to be good and Notre Dame football will be back. And I guarantee that we will beat USC the next three years.”

Now, I know some old time fans won’t like that kind of talk – especially from a high school recruit, but if you ask me, this is EXACTLY the type of attitude that Notre Dame has been missing for years. It’s also the exact attitude that Notre Dame needs more of in order to get back amongst the nation’s elite. We need more players who aren’t afraid of playing schools like USC and who have the confidence in themselves to be able to make such claims.

And he added this about his decision.

“I honestly believe that I made the best decision for me,” he said. “I think I fit in real well there, especially with the scheme they run. It’s something very similar to what we run at my high school. Plus, I can be a good receiver out of the backfield and catch the ball, too. Like I said, it’s a good fit and situation for me, and it’s a place where I feel real comfortable.

The entire article is a pretty good read, and I recommend reading it if you have the time.

Here’s another YouTube clip of Cierre Wood that I hadn’t seen before too.

  1. Dave,
Says on Rivals that he runs a 4.5 forty
Scout reports 4.56 speed, thats not anything close to breakaway speed, I wonder what other intangibles they see in him.

  2. Why would wood guaranteed three years instead of four years? isn’t ND a four year university. We all know about those guaranteed victories over SC, so far 0-3 for your fat coach. L.O.L WE R SC

  3. REMINDS ME A BIT OF RICKY WATERS IN HIS UPRIGHT RUNNING STYLE…..SEEMS TO HAVE AN INNATE SENSE IN SETTING UP BLOCKS AT THE POINT OF ATTACK AND DOWNFIELD….DON’T KNOW WHAT COMPETITION WAS LIKE BUT SEVERAL TIMES ON THE VIDEO HE BROKE THE ANGLE OF THE DEFENDERS…JUST OUT RAN ‘EM.

  4. I LIKE THIS COMMENT BY WOOD. I UNDERSTAND THAT SOME WOULD SEE IT AS HAVING TOO MUCH BRAVADO BUT I THINK THAT IS WHAT THE IRISH NEED MORE OF AS WELL. I AGREE WITH FRANK THAT SO MUCH OF THE COLLEGE GAME HINGES ON EMOTION AND PLAYERS OF WOOD’S CALIBER THAT PLAY WITH EMOTION AND DETERMINATION CAN’T BE IGNORED. HERE’S TO THE NEW ERA OF NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL AND OUR RETURN TO GLORY GO IRISH’08

I remember all those years when we beat USC routinely during the Holtz era.

Well, enjoy it while lasts and nothing lasts forever, you will lose to us and soon.

Keep counting the five star players with big kahunas coming out of your back yard, it doesn’t take a road scholar to figure out what is next with this kind of recruiting.

You might win this year, but it will be close. Besides, you owe us one with your nationally infamous Bush-Push.
In 2009, the tide will turn with a superbundance of experienced four and five star players. No more blow outs. And we won’t have the NCAA breathing on us.

  6. HAHAHA…it’s definitely good that he has this confidence. I just hope for his own good he can pull his weight this season.

Here’s a player who grew up right in SC’s backyard and has undoubtedly seen what that team is capable of. Yet he still GUARANTEES a victory? FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS???

I wonder what his response will be after this year’s @ss whoopin…

    Great attitude, horrible tact.

  7. Well boys, we are going to put up this year. Especially for those who can’t do the math, we will get out our crayons and draw pictures on all the four and five star recruits we now have with experience. And more on the way!

How do you naysayers think how USC got so good? Recruiting like Tyrone? Davie?
    No, recruiting like Lou Holtz!

We will be better than average this year for all you impatient and boastfully vain pronosticators.

  8. jim that wasn’t me but i agree with other kevin

honestly i think it’s great that we have kids like that in our locker room but the problem is when we don’t an dhe looks like an idiot he might lash out

also, i’d love to have some player guarantee a W against michigan for three years straight cause that would be great

  9. Hey Jim – (7/22, 10:17 AM)

Why don’t you shut-up and put-up? And try spelling
    “ridiculous” right…

    GoND’89

  10. I am a ND fan and I think it is ridiculas to say that comming from a 3-9 team. ND hasn’t put up a real competitive team for about 15 years, even the BCS games ND has made it to have been pretty sketchy to make it into. The Irish need to put up or shut up.

  11. You guys do have this mentality in your players. Clausen said he would win 4 MNC while at ND. From your coach to your players, you guys sure like to talk.

  12. I love it. I couldn’t agree more. We need more of this sort of attitude in our locker room. I bet all the SC players think there going to beat the Irish the next three years. Great highlite vid. Can’t wait to have this kid on campus.
