Class of 2017

Notre Dame LB David Adams Senior Year Highlights

National Signing Day was less than a week ago and while Notre Dame is already in full on class of 2018 mode, there’s a still a lot of time to kill between now and spring football to look back at some of the young men who are now officially members of the Fighting Irish.  A little over a week ago, one of them – linebacker David Adams -released his senior season highlights and they are well worth a watch. Adams was a consensus 4-star recruit until Rivals dropped him to 3-stars following the Under Amrour All-American practices and bowl game. ...

Recapping A Wildly Successful Notre Dame Signing Day

Signing Day has been more of a time cringe than a time to celebrate for Notre Dame fans over the last few years.  Last year the Irish missed on Ben Davis, Caleb Kelly, and (eventually) Demetrius Robertson while only landing one new recruit – Jonathan Jones.  This year it looked like it would be more of the same when Russ Yeast stuck with Louisville early this morning.  Throughout the day, however, Notre Dame not only avoided any last minute defections, they also bolstered what was looking like a thin defensive class with three talented defensive recruits. Late last night there ...

Notre Dame staged some theatrics on Wednesday during Brian Kelly’s annual Signing Day Press Conference.  Jeremiah Owusu, a hybrid safety/linebacker called head coach Brian Kelly to let the head coach know his letter of intent was signed, sealed, and delivered.  For those watching live it was a fun way to announce the 20th member of Notre Dame’s class of 2017. Direct video available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iXqw8tgP0c  Side note: hats off to the WatchND crew and Jack Nolan for their coverage of National Signing Day.  The crew outdid themselves again this year and gave Notre Dame fans some really unparalleled coverage of Signing ...

Notre Dame Gets a Pass Rusher: Kofi Wardlow Signs with Irish!

National Signing Day started off on a sour note for Notre Dame with cornerback Russ Yeast sticking with his Louisville commitment, but the Irish have since landed three new defenders now that Kofi Wardlow has selected Notre Dame over Maryland.  Wardlow had been committed to Maryland since the end of last year but the Irish zeroed in on him in January.  Earlier today the Irish landed Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa from Hawaii and Jeremiah Osuwu-Koramoah. Notre Dame needed a pass rusher in this class.  Now they have one.  Kofi Wardlow, a 6-4, 230 lbs DE out of the Washington DC area, gives ...

DE Recruit Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa Signs with Notre Dame!

Notre Dame is officially one for two on National Signing Day 2017.  The Irish added defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa Wednesday afternoon when the Hawaiian native signed with Notre Dame.  The Irish lost out on cornerback Russ Yeast earlier in the day when he stuck with his commitment to Louisville.  Tagovalia, on the other hand, signed with Notre Dame and bolstered the defensive line haul for the Irish. Notre Dame was a late player in the recruitment of Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa – just as they were with Yeast – but in this case they were not battling for a recruit who was ...

Avery Davis: Notre Dame’s Most Important Offensive Recruit in ’17

Notre Dame is in the process of signing some serious offensive talent in the class of 2017.  All American Brock Wright is already on campus.  Fellow All American tight end Cole Kmet will join him this summer.  The Irish added four star offensive linemen (Aaron Banks, Josh Lugg, Robert Hainsey), running back (CJ Holmes), and wide receiver (Jafar Armstrong) as well.  It’s hard to argue, however, with quarterback Avery Davis being the most important offensive recruit in this year’s class. Notre Dame’s ever fluid quarterback depth chart under Brian Kelly saw another off-season of upheaval this year with Deshone Kizer ...

Harry Hiestand Strikes Again: Notre Dame Lands Another Stellar OL Class

Harry Hiestand isn’t going to jump into any pools to win a recruit over.  He isn’t going to have a sleepover at a recruits house.  And he isn’t going to camp outside their house and prevent a last minute official visit to a rival school.  He is going to tell kids exactly how it is and he is going to lock down a top flight offensive line class.  Every. Damn. Year.  2017 was no exception to the rule. As the faxes come in today and various recruiting sites start ranking the best position units around the country, expect to see ...

Notre Dame Starts NSD on Sour Note, Russ Yeast Signs with Louisvillle

The faxes machines are still warming up around the country on National Signing Day 2017, but the Irish have already lost one of the few battles there were still in!  Russ Yeast, a 4-star CB/WR from Indiana started off the day by faxing in his letter of intent to Louisville. Despite being a Indiana native and Under Armour All-American, Russ Yeast didn’t have an offer until two weeks ago after Notre Dame filled up at cornerback with Paulson Adebo and Elijah Hicks.  After both prospects decommitted from Notre Dame in January, however, the Irish finally offered the in-state product.  Unforuntately ...

5 Instant Impact Players in Notre Dame’s 2017 Recruiting Class

Our 2017 signing coverage continues with a look at five players I think could make, or are at least capable of making an instant impact on the Notre Dame football team in 2017. I say “at least capable” because this class could have a difficult time actually breaking through to get meaningful minutes on the football field in their first seasons. If Notre Dame was anything last year, they were young, and there are a litany of players returning who played a lot of snaps on both sides of the ball. And green as they were, it is a talented ...

Notre Dame Recruiting 2017 Signing Day: 5 Diamonds In The Rough

Our 2017 signing day coverage continues with one of my favorite columns of the year, my look at the signees who I think will far exceed their recruiting projections and star for the Irish during their careers. Last year, Julian Love made this list on his way to also being my freshman of the year, so naturally one of these guys will also star on the field next season and make me an instant genius.  Some people are saying it’s the “diamond in the rough” bump, I’m not saying that, but that’s what many people are saying. To be clear, ...

Jalen Harris Sticks with Arizona, Notre Dame Down to 4

Earlier today we posted the remaining big board for Notre Dame featuring five prospects.  Tonight we’re down to the final four after defensive end recruit Jalen Harris decided to stay at home and remain committed to Arizona.  The loss leaves just one weak-side defensive end left on the board for Notre Dame heading into Signing Day. It was always going to take a huge late push to get Jalen Harris on board for Notre Dame, but by all reports, that is exactly what happened.  Optimism was high on Notre Dame’s chances here on Notre Dame recruiting sites, but ultimately, Harris’s close ...

Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Who’s Left on Notre Dame’s Board?

Notre Dame lost two players on its recruiting board on Monday after gaining two new commitments on Sunday night.  With Signing Day 24 hours away, Notre Dame is still awaiting decisions from five recruits today and tomorrow.  Here’s a run down of where Notre Dame’s recruiting board stands as of Tuesday morning. Notre Dame’s Remaining Targets Jalen Harris (DE) ★★★ – The Arizona native was committed to Arizona coming into his weekend visit with Notre Dame, but a great visit pulled Notre Dame into a dead heat here.  A decision was expected on Monday, but so far nothing has broken on Harris’s decision. ...

Jalen Harris Has Great Notre Dame Visit, Decision Today?

Notre Dame desperately wants to add a pass rusher to this year’s class and their last chance to do so could be Jalen Harris.  The Arizona native and Wildcat commitment visited South Bend this weekend and the Notre Dame coaching staff gave him plenty to think about.  According to Irish Sports Daily, we could know today if Notre Dame did enough to flip him. Harris was one of the first of the late round offers to go out the door earlier this month and has been a priority recruit for Notre Dame ever since.  Notre Dame has been trying to ...
