The Demon Deacons have tried a zone defense more often in recent games, and it tends to offer several benefits.

Using a lineup that doesn't go deep off the bench, it gives Wake Forest a chance to protect players from foul trouble. It's also a way to conserve energy in certain situations because fatigue could set in on the primary players.

"It kind of keeps us from chasing people around so much," coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "It compacts us. It helps us rebounding-wise."

Of course, it also makes the Demon Deacons vulnerable against teams that can shoot well from the perimeter.

Wake Forest might get a better matchup from a physical standpoint in its next game against Boston College.
