Manti Te’o Drafted #38 Overall by San Diego

Manti Te'o - Drafted by Chargers #38 Overall

Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o’s draft slide ended very early on Friday night when the San Diego Chargers traded up to the 38th spot to select Notre Dame’s most decorated linebacker in school history. Long thought to be a first round pick throughout his senior season, Te’o draft fall began the night of January 7th in the national championship game.  Then there was the whole girlfriend hoax and all the drama that followed. A poor showing at the NFL combine back in February featuring a 4.8 40 yard dash did not do much to help his slide. Te’o rebounded ...

Initial Impressions – Notre Dame 14, Stanford 37

Notre Dame suffered a tough loss Saturday at the hands of Stanford.  The Irish were dominated on both lines of scrimmage and struggled to sustain much offense throughout the game.  Here are some initial thoughts on today’s game. Offense The offensive line had its roughest day of the season.  Stanford generated a pass rush all day long most ly rushing just 3 or 4 linemen.  The line is still missing assignments as evidenced by the failed fourth and 1 run when the game was still somewhat in doubt.  The line is going to be a work in progress it appears ...

Jimmy Clausen Falls Out of 1st Round

Many people had been predicting a Brady Quinn-like draft day tumble for Jimmy Clausen for weeks now.  Turns out those people were wrong – his fall is worse.  Clausen went from a sure fire top 10 pick  months ago to completely out of the first round on Thursday night. The popular projection for Clausen heading into Thursday night’s first round was the mid teens to early 20’s.  Pick by pick went by the board though and Clausen never heard his name.  Making matters even more frsutrating for the former Irish was the selection of Tim Tebow by the Denver Broncos ...

Irish hang on in OT to defeat Huskies, 37-30

Notre Dame survived another close game, defeating the Washington Huskies 37-30 in overtime.  Down 24-22, the Irish needed consecutive goal line stands late in the second half of saturday’s game, to limit the Huskies to a 4 point lead, and give Jimmy Clausen and the offense the opportunity to reclaim the lead with just over a minute left to play.  A touchdown pass from Clausen to Kyle Rudolph, followed by a two point conversion by Robert Hughes, put the Irish up 30-27.  The Huskies answered with a field goal which sent the game into OT. Hughes would score again in ...

This week’s podcast loaded

This week’s podcast was broken into two clips for everyone since the show ended up being two hours this week.  The first clip is the interview with Randy Kinder which went really, really well and the second is our Air Force preview.  Both clips have some great stuff in them.  Jeff and I both watched Air Force’s last game and talked about what we think we’ll see out of the Falcons this weekend.

Week 4 Picks of Disaster

Yikes! Week 3 was almost as bad as week 2 (maybe worse). Frank will probably pull the whole idea if I carry a losing record after this week. Nevertheless, positive energy and a little luck of the Irish (they haven’t used any yet) will lead to a winning record this week. Bet the ranch… Clemson (-7.5) @ NC State Clemson has put together a solid year offensively, starting with their opening win in the Bowden Bowl and victories over two cupcakes in Louisana-Monroe and Furman. NC State, on the other hand, has struggled mightily against D1-A teams this year, losing ...

Week 3 Picks of Destiny

Week three’s picks are coming in just before deadline, but better late than never. Last week wasn’t what I was hoping for coming off of a very successful week one, but overall a 7-5 record is very acceptable. Onward… Arkansas (+3.5) @ Alabama Leading off with a bit of a risky pick. The Razorbacks had the off-season from hell, but so far its shown no effects on the field. It’s Nick Saban’s first real chance to prove himself in an SEC Battle, but the defensive mastermind is still working with a fairly new talent set. As long as you have ...

Week 1 Picks of Destiny

A new weekly feature, the Picks of Destiny will break down a few games each week including a prediction for Notre Dame’s upcoming match up. Consider it a bit of a tip sheet for the Pick ‘em Challenge. Weekly results will be tallied and readers can post comments throughout the weekend with regards to what an idiot the author is. Fair enough. And so it goes:Miami, Fl (-18) v. MarshallTypically this would be a simple “Powerhouse v. Cupcake” matchup, but it is not the case after the ‘Canes performance last year. However, despite the Category 5 performances given by the ...

Chris Stewart is Back on Offense

Despite the indefinite suspension of Derrell Hand after his arrest last week, sophomore Chris Stewart will be moving back to the offensive side of the ball according to Charlie Weis on Monday. I know, this is the Hand and all that. I kind of figured that one was coming. I think that right now, we’re going to let him start off at guard. We don’t need him – at this point today, we don’t need him at nose, but we have a couple players that we’ve discussed Chris with offense and defense and we’ve also talked about the two young ...

Irish Add DB Jamoris Slaughter

(UHND.com) – Notre Dame’s recruiting momentum continued to swing full steam ahead Wednesday when news broke that defensive back Jamoris Slaughter became the 16th commitment in this year’s recruiting class. Slaughter, a safety/corner back prospect, picked Notre Dame over rival Michigan and LSU. Slaughter (6’0”, 185, 4.5) is an explosive hitter with the power to be a punishing safety who also has the speed and athleticism to play corner – something he’s done throughout his high school career at Tucker HS. Slaughter also has the versatility to be able to play on the offensive side of the ball, but the ...
