Notre Dame Injury Report: Updates on Wimbush, Adams, and Others

Josh Adams - Notre Dame RB

Notre Dame had a couple big time injury scares on Saturday in their win over Wake Forest with starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush leaving momentarily and Josh Adams missing the majority of the game.  Luckily for Notre Dame it sounds like both should be full go for this weekend’s showdown with unbeaten Miami in South Florida.  Those two were the only players to suffer some bumps and bruises though.

Here’s the full injury report.

  • Brandon Wimbush – X-rays were taken of his left hand but they came back negative and he was able to play with the left hand contusion.  Notre Dame got very lucky here.  He won’t be limited at all this week.
  • Josh Adams – Brian Kelly was very adamant that Adams never went through the concussion protocol despite reports of the contrary by NBC during the telecast.
  • Alize Mack – Missed the Wake Forest game after suffering a concussion vs. NC State.  Kelly said he would be lifting with the team today and practicing with them on Tuesday.
  • Nick Watkins – Kelly said that he’s been dealing with some tendinitis in his knee but that wasn’t necessarily why he was limited against Wake Forest. Troy Pride got more action than he’s been this weekend at the expense of Watkins.
  • Dexter Williams – After dealing with an ankle injury early in the year, Kelly said that he’s also been dealing with a quad injury as well and that’s what slowed him down on Saturday.  Williams broke into the open field at one point in the second and could have easily had a long touchdown if he was full speed.  He pulled up a bit lame though and didn’t get another carry the rest of the night.
  • Khalid Kareem – Suffered a hyperextension of his knee against Wake, but he also won’t be limited this weekend according to Kelly.

The news on Williams is unfortunate.  The poor kid just can’t stay healthy this year but when he is 100% he’s been dynamic. Kelly didn’t exactly sound optimistic on having him in action this weekend, but we’ll see.

The good news here is that Notre Dame should have both Wimbush and Adams in action this weekend.  They will need them against the unbeaten Hurricanes for the primetime showdown.  With the heat and humidity in Miami, it would be great to have Kareem in the defensive line rotation Saturday night as well.

Definitely looked like a tight hammy. Thank God he didn’t pull it but it will shut him down for awhile. Sucks but it could be worse. Adams, Jones, and McIntosh is still a three headed monster that would give most DC’s a headache. Really impressed with “4th” string McIntosh. Each back has a unique niche with Adams the beast of the bunch.

Was that Williams or McIntosh who looked left on His long run? It looked rather odd.

Williams. And you could see Kelly address it as soon as the kid came off the field.

Looked to me that Williams realized something wasn’t right a few steps after he broke through the line and did his best to finish the run without kicking himself into top gear.

That’s a tough place to be as an athlete–you don’t want to blow out something important, but you want to finish the play. I think he probably handled it as best he could; but it definitely looked odd.
