Notre Dame to Play in Another NFL Stadium in 2020, 2024

Notre Dame football players will be no strangers to NFL stadiums in 2020.  On Tuesday Georgia Tech announced that they will be playing one home game a year in Mercedes Benz Stadium – home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons – and that their contests with Notre Dame in both 2020 and 2024 will be moved from Bobby Dodd Stadium to Mercedez Benz.  That makes four road games for the Irish in NFL Stadiums alone on their 2020 schedule.

In addition to playing Georgia Tech in the home of the Falcons on November 14, 2020; the Irish will also be playing in the following NFL venues in 2020:

  • Bank of America Stadium vs. Wake Forest – home of the Carolina Panthers (September 26)
  • Lambeau Field vs. Wisconsin – home of the Green Bay Packers (October 3)
  • Heinz Field vs. Pitt – home of the Pittsburgh Panthers (October 17)

A fifth game will be played in what will be a former NFL Stadium by the time.  The season finale versus arch rival USC will be played in the LA Coliseum (November 28).  The LA Rams are currently playing their home games there, but by 2020 their new mega stadium is supposed to be open leaving USC alone in their relic of a stadium.

Notre Dame will also play a road game in Aviva Stadium in Dublin against Navy on August 29, 2020. The Irish get an early season bye week the recover after the Transatlantic trip.

All of that will leave Notre Dame with no campus being played on their opponents actual campus since both the LA Coliseum and Heinz Field are the home stadiums for USC and Pitt respectively but neither are on campus for either institution.

As a reminder, Notre Dame does host Clemson who will bring a junior year Trevor Lawrence to South Bend as well as Stanford for their marquee home games in 2020.

The overall lineup for Notre Dame in 2020 will give the Irish plenty of opportunities to showcase the program all over the country while simultaneously not being overly daunting outside of having to host Lawrence and the Tigers.

The Georgia Tech game that just got moved to Mercedes Benz Stadium will come the week after the Irish host Clemson.  Notre Dame returns home the week after their trip to Atlanta to host Louisville.
