Shamrock Stickers: Wake Forest ’12

Notre Dame sent this year’s group of seniors off in style with a 38-0 win over Wake Forest. The Irish jumped on the Demon Deacons from kickoff and didn’t let up until the game was in hand. After a game in which they executed beautifully, the Irish are the new number one team in the nation after both Kansas State and Oregon lost Saturday. The following players led the Irish to victory on senior day in this week’s edition of Shamrock Stickers:

Everett Golson

On a day where Notre Dame greats Tyler Eifert and Manti Te’o played their final game at Notre Dame Stadium redshirt freshman Everett Golson showed fans the future is bright. Golson picked the Wake Forest defense apart with ease, going 20-30 for 346 and three touchdowns. Golson looked sharp on timing routes and took advantage of mismatches, finding Tyler Eifert and T.J. Jones six times each.

Cierre Wood

It is unknown if Cierre Wood will be back at Notre Dame next year, but if he isn’t he put on a show in his final game at Notre Dame Stadium. Wood rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. The senior set the tone with the longest run of the season for the Irish when he took an option pitch from Golson 68 yards to the end zone. Wood seemed to gash the Wake Forest defense every time he touched the ball en route to the Irish win.

Carlo Calabrese

Another senior with eligibility remaining who had a big game versus the Demon Deacons is linebacker Carlo Calabrese. Calabrese led the Irish with seven tackles and also established the defence’s dominance when he landed a crushing hit on Wake Forest running back Josh Harris on their opening drive forcing Harris to fumble. The Irish offense would score on the ensuing drive and never look back.

Louis Nix

Notre Dame’s big man in the middle of the defense Louis Nix played another brilliant game for the Irish. Nix also recorded seven tackles as well as a pass breakup and was all over the field wreaking havoc for the Irish. Nix took advantage of a makeshift Wake Forest offensive line along with the rest of the Irish front seven, holding the Demon Deacons to only 55 yards rushing.

  1. Great Senior Day everything went the IRISH way they took care of business in a dominating wat the D!!! is outstanding and the offence is vastly improved. Only one thing left to ………..BEAT SC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and take care of business and letv things fall into place. Sat night was one crazy night in college football thats why its the greatest. TORONTO CANADA ND FAN FOR LIFE.

  2. Let’s just beat USC. That’s all that matters right now. It’s so hard not to think about us being #1 and the National Championship game because this just hasn’t happened for us. But USC is going to be a tough game. We just need to keep playing our best football and we will beat them. Go Irish!!!

  3. Some food for thought for 2013. Wood/Eifert/Calabrese/Watt and/or Martin from memory have a 5th year and 6 others for a total of 11 with a case perhaps being able to be made for another 2 possibly (but 5 would be certain to be on Kelly’s “wish list”. Since I think Slaughter also has another red shirt year that would be a fairly handy group to return if they choose to. Eifert would put up record numbers that could stand as long as McAfee’s did with Golston settling in at QB as a passer. Wood played second fiddle all year to Riddick who will be gone so he could really showcase his talent if he chooses to come back. Nice to have a couple of All American caliber talents on the line, in the backfield, and at TE to start spring game wouldn’t you agree Frank?? Cheers

  4. Amen Frank,

Are you pinching yourself?? Well, I was confident we would beat OU and win out from there. After witnessing 4 National Championship teams in my life, you just know when you are seeing another one. The defense speaks for itself, coupled with E.G.’s elite skills trending at the right time certainly equals championship team chemistry!

At 10 wins, as I promised, I have done a 180 on BK. BK’s lastest video comments “The ND Way” pushed me completely over the top. BK is well on his way with a solid “ELITE” ND program. The question is not if anymore!

    1. Hey JC, this one was written by Pierce, I just forgot to change the author name when I posted it.

But, yes, I am pinching myself. Loving every second of being ranked #1 though.

      1. Well, enjoy the magic my friend, we are way over due with some big scores to settle!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Great job as always, keep the faith!!
