Jefferson Cancels Visits After UCLA Commitment

Yesterday the Detroit Free Press ran a story about linebacker recruit Tony Jefferson listing Notre Dame and Michigan among his destinations for his official visits.  Tuesday night, Jefferson surprised a few people and committed to UCLA.  Per a post on the OC Register, Jefferson has canceled the five official visists he planned to take and is done with recruiting.

“I think the program is going to turn around and I want to be part of that,” he told Rivals.com. “Recruiting is a done deal. I’m pretty much done with everything. All the trips have been canceled.”

Jefferson is a four star prospect and top 100 recruit according to Rivals.com who would have been a very nice addition to this year’s class had the staff been able to secure a commitment from him.   Notre Dame still has some other outside linebackers left on the board including Khairi Fort Josh Shirley, and Christian Jones to name a few.  Justin McCay, who is also considered an elite wide receiver, is still considering Notre Dame and is listed as a linebacker by Scout.  Current safety commitment Chris Badger could also potentially grow into an outside linebacker prospect down the road as well.

Jefferson was also considered by some to be an elite safety prospect – an area where Notre Dame is in need after striking out on signing day last with with Byron Moore and Jawanza Starling.
