Notre Dame picked up its 15th verbal commitment for the class of 2015 on Monday afternoon when news broke that running back josh Adams selected Notre Dame after his visit for the Irish Invasion a little over a week ago.

After not signing a running back in the class of 2014, Notre Dame was expected to target at least two tailbacks in this year’s class.  Josh Adams of Warrington, Pennsylvania and Central Bucks South HS, is the first back to join the class.  Adams, a recent recipient of a Notre Dame scholarship offer, performed well enough at the Irish Invasion to ease concerns over a torn ACL suffered during his junior season that limited Adams to just six games last fall.

Despite the ACL injury, 247 Sporta still ranks Adams as the #16 running back in the country and rates the big back as a 4-star prospect.  Rivals is a bit more cautious in their ranking of the 6’2″, 210 lbs back rating him as a 3-star recruit and outside of their top 60 at the position.

Before Adams tore his ACL as a junior, he picked up 738 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.  It was as a sophomore that Adams began to make a name for himself though with 2,089 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Some Notre Dame fans will undoubtedly think back to another great prep running back not so long ago that suffered a torn ACL in his high school career and have some concern over offering a runner coming off such a serious injury.  James Aldrdige torn his ACL in school almost a decade ago and was never able to fully return to form during a largely disappointing career that start with 5-star expectations.

With Adams though, the Notre Dame coaches offered a scholarship after he tore his ACL and after seeing him up close and personal on campus for the Irish Invasion.  Notre Dame wasn’t the only major program to offer Adams either.  Boston College, Penn State, Pitt, and Stanford all offered the Keystone state native before Adams ended his recruiting by committing to Notre Dame.

Adams has been rehabbing his ACL and is expected to be ready for his senior season for Central Bucks South this fall.

With Adams in the fold, look for Notre Dame to continue to heavily pursue another back in this class to compliment Adams in the backfield.  Soso Jamabo and Jacques Patrick, both top 100 overall prospects, figure to be right at the top of their list.

Notre Dame now has 15 commitments in the class of 2015 with spots filling up fast and a number of top recruits set to announce their college decisions this week.  Elite linebackers Jashon Cornell and Justin Hilliard are both set to make commitments on Wednesday as is 4-star wide receiver Miles Boykin.   Notre Dame is thought to be in great position for Boykin heading into decision day but is also considered the underdog for both Hilliard and Cornell as the trio near their decisions.

  1. He looks like he runs too tall for the next level. Guys that stand up are often easy to take down…

  2. I can’t stand Ohio State, but man they had one heck of a running back in Carlos Hyde. Wouldn’t it be nice to get a big bruiser like this that also has the speed to take it to the house on any play!?!?

  3. Kid reminds me of Ricky Watters….very explosive and fast. Can take it to the house!

Hopefully, the knee will be good.

    Go IRISH,

    1. Kids got some nice “shake and bake” moves for 6’2 and 210lbs and he certainly can get “North and South” very quickly. With another year to add more size he might be more like 6’3 and 230 in two years time and could be a LOAD.

  4. I think you might mean “Rivals is a bit more bearish…”, still a good article, and thank you….
