According to NBC’s Keith Arnold, Notre Dame junior wide receiver Michael Floyd will let head coach Brian Kelly know whether he will come back to Notre Dame for a senior season or if he’ll join team Kyle Rudolph in leaving college a year early for the NFL.

Floyd met with Brian Kelly today and will now sleep on all of the data he has before informing Kelly his intentions.

Right now it’s anyone’s guess what Floyd might do.  At one point it looked like Floyd was a sure bet to leave for the NFL, but rumors began to circulate that he was given a third round grade by the NFL advisory committee last week and since then there has been speculation that Floyd could return for his senior season.

Juniors Ryan Broyles of Oklahoma decided last week to return to for his final season and Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon is reportedly considering staying in Stillwater for his senior season as well removing two potentially high ranked wide receivers than Floyd from the draft pool.

Even with Broyles and potentially Blackmon returning, Floyd will still have to contend with Georgia’s AJ Green, Alabama’s Julio Jones, and Pitt’s Jonathan Baldwin.  All three are widely considered to be higher ranked pro prospects which would mean that Floyd would likely be at best the forth receiver taken off the board in April.

Should Floyd return, he would likely be on most experts’ All American teams this summer and would have a chance to make a run at the Biletnikoff if he could stay healthy all season.

Notre Dame fans have been nervously awaiting Floyd’s decision since the last seconds ticked off the clock in El Paso on New Year’s Eve.  Since then a lot of goods things have happened for the Irish on the recruiting trail.  Notre Dame fans hope that trend continues tomorrow.

I think durability is a question for Floyd. He is almost a complete receiver (drops are an issue from time to time) but he has missed plenty of games during his ND career. Also he is so tough to tackle. It shows when Floyd catches a pass and it takes 4, 5, 6, sometimes 7 defenders to bring him down. That to me contributes to his injuries. I praise his refusal to go down, no one can say toughness is a bad characteristic, but he takes a lot of hits when he does that. Players are coach to get the extra yards. He does what he is told to do.
