Brian Kelly Loves the ‘Boring’ 2016 Notre Dame Class

Brian Kelly Contract Extension

Notre Dame didn’t have much drama on National Signing Day 2016 in terms of late minute defections or decommitments.  No Chris Little, Greg Little, Lorenzo Booker, or Deontay Greenbery situations like Greg talked about in his post over the weekend.  At the same time, Notre Dame didn’t land the 5-star fish they were hoping to reel in either.  Still, a Signing Day devoid of being Bookered or Leaked was a nice change. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly opens up about the lack of drama behind Notre Dame’s recruiting process this year in this video from Sports Illustrated.

Notre Dame Awaits Demetris Robertson’s Decision

Demetris Robertson - Notre Dame WR Target

Notre Dame’s 2016 National Signing Day didn’t go exactly how the Irish coaching staff would have liked it to with the Irish batting one for three and losing out on two 5-star recruits – linebackers Ben Davis and Caleb Kelly – in the process.  Even with Signing Day essentially over, however, Notre Dame still has their eyes set on adding one more 5-star recruit.  Demetris Robertson. The recruitment of Demetris Robertson has been interesting to say the least.  After originally committing to Alabama, Robertson opened his recruitment back up and focused on Notre Dame and Stanford – two schools with ...

Jonathan Jones Commits to Notre Dame

Jonathan Jones - Notre Dame LB

Notre Dame got some good news early Wednesday morning with when Florida linebacker Jonathan Jones selected Notre Dame over Michigan at his 10:30 announcement – especially after Notre Dame lost out on 5-star LB Ben Davis earlier this morning. Jones, a one time Michigan commitment, had been trending towards Notre Dame for a little while making his announcement not too surprising while at the same time reassuring for Notre Dame fans beings as Jones was considered the only “sure thing” heading into Signing Day. At 5’11”, 220 lbs, Jones checks in a bit undersized.  In fact, that might be the ...

Meet Notre Dame Football’s ’16 Defensive Recruits

Spencer Perry - Notre Dame S

Julian Okwara – WDE Summary: The younger brother of graduating defensive end Romeo Okwara, Julian Okwara comes to Notre Dame as a similar, but more developed prospect than his older brother.  Julian Okwara projects as a weakside defensive end just like his brother but will be a full year older than his brother was as a true freshman.  People forget that Romeo Okwara was playing NCAA football not long after his 17 year old birthday.  Julian is already 18 months before even reporting to campus.  Like his brother though, the younger Okwara will need some time to develop as he was ...

Meet Notre Dame Football’s ’16 Offensive Recruits

Ian Book - Notre Dame QB

Ian Book – QB Summary: For a while it looked like Notre Dame might not add a quarterback in the class of 2016.  The Irish appeared to be the leader’s in the clubhouse for elite 2017 QB Hunter Johnson and had just landed the dynamic Brandon Wimbush in the class of 2015 and they were having a hard time gaining the interest of 2016 signal callers.  Enter Ian Book.  The one-time Washington State quarterback who Mike Sanford became familiar with while coaching at Boise State in 2014, didn’t have an impressive offer list – mainly due to his measureables – ...

5 Hidden Gems in the ’16 Notre Dame Recruiting Class

Troy Pride Jr - Notre Dame Commitment

The tenor of the 2016 Notre Dame recruiting class will likely be determined by the decisions of three players–Demetris Robertson, Ben Davis and Caleb Kelly. They are a star studded trio–five stars to be exact–and because Notre Dame has 22 solid commitments heading into National Signing Day, all the attention will be given to those three announcements. And, really, there is merit to the excitement and intrigue regarding those players, as all three are immensely talented and would be great additions to the class of 2016. They would also represent the only five stars inked in this year’s recruiting cycle ...

7 Future Stars in Notre Dame’s Recruiting Class of ’16

Javon McKinley - Notre Dame WR

Every year we look at some instant impact and hidden gem recruits (coming soon) around National Signing Day.  You know the ones who could see the field right away and those that could develop into great players in a few years.  We haven’t really looked at players who will almost definitely be big time players but might not exactly be instant impact recruits because of depth, injuries, or any other number of reasons they might just need a little time before their every down players.  We are today. Here are 7 players in Notre Dame’s class of 2016 that will ...

Autry Denson Fueling Notre Dame Football Recruiting

Autry Denson - Notre Dame RB Coach

When Urban Meyer convinced Tony Alford to leave Brian Kelly’s staff a year ago for the same position on his, Notre Dame fans – this one included – were terrified about the potential recruiting impact Alford’s loss would have.  Well, a year later, Autry Denson -Alford’s replacement – is making us all forget all about those worries. Prior to joining the Notre Dame coaching staff last February, Autry Denson had limited coaching experience.  He coached the running backs at Bethune-Cookman for three seasons before joining Chuck Martin’s staff at Miami of Ohio in 2014.  Just before joining the Irish staff, he ...

6 Instant Impact ’16 Notre Dame Football Recruits

Daelin Hayes Commits to Notre Dame

With the fax machines warming up across the country, we will complete one our the favorite past times of all college football bloggers – picking out which recruits could be instant impact players next fall. Predicting such recruits is an inexact science to say the best and being successful is usually more about being able to predict opportunity rather than talent.  For instance, a 5-star recruit stepping into a depth chart anchored by an All-American for instance, might not see the field much as a frosh.  A 3-star player coming off an injury – looking at you Josh Adams – ...

It’s Time for Brian Kelly to Earn Some Coffee

Brian Kelly - Notre Dame HC

As we all learned in Glengarry Glen Ross, “Coffee’s for closers only.”  Well, with just over a week to go until National Signing Day 2016 and a few, select elite recruits left on Notre Dame’s recruiting board, it’s time for Brian Kelly and his staff to earn their coffee to close out this class and push it into elite status. Notre Dame has been here before under Brian Kelly.  They’ve headed into National Signing Day with elite recruits left on the board but more often than not, they’ve ended up as the bridesmaid for a 5-star recruit.  The one glaring ...

Weekly Notre Dame Football Recruiting Roundup 1/25

Ben Davis - Notre Dame LB Recruit

With less than two weeks remaining until National Signing Day Notre Dame’s recruiting board is beginning to become more focused. Athlete Jonah Morris – a newcomer to UHND’s watch list last week – dropped off nearly as quickly as he arrived, with Morris officially eliminating Notre Dame from his list of options. The subtraction of Morris leaves seven prospects (four linebackers, two wide receivers and one defensive back) with several open slots left for Notre Dame’s 2016 recruiting class. Jonathan Jones Hometown: Orlando, FL Position: LB Star Ranking: Rivals 3-star; 24/7 3-star; ESPN 3-star Top Offers: Georgia, Florida, LSU Trending: ...

Notre Dame Knocked Ben Davis Visit Out of the Park. Is it Enough?

Ben Davis - Notre Dame LB Target

Coming into his visit to Notre Dame this weekend, Notre Dame was considered a long shot at best for the services of the 5-star linebacker.  Heading out of it Notre Dame has moved up his leaderboard, but did the Irish do enough to have a legit chance to land the signature from the Alabama legacy next month? Here’s what Davis told Scout.com’s Jake Brown on Sunday. “Notre Dame definitely helped themselves,” he said. “They were toward the bottom of the list but now they’re definitely in my top three. Like I said, I definitely had a great time. I learned ...
