Notre Dame adds Tai-ler Jones

Notre Dame’s big recruiting weekend has netted the Irish a commitment already in the form of four star wide receiver Tai-ler Jones.  Jones, the son of former Notre Dame defensive lineman Andre Jones, had previously been commited to Stanford, but his visit this weekend went well enough to get him to switch to the Irish.

Jones commited to Stanford back in April over Notre Dame, Georgia, and Alabama.  At the time of his commitment, however he said he had planned on still taking visits which suggested that his recruitment was far from over.  After visiting this past weekend, Jones decided that Notre Dame was the place for him.

He told Irish Sports Daily:

“Not staying overnight at Notre Dame the first time I visited, and not hanging out with their players and not getting the atmosphere on a good day when it’s not raining and snowing, made me miss out a lot on what they stand for and represent, and that’s definitely a big aspect,” Jones explained. “Finding out what they stand for and represent as a football team and a college was really big for me.

Jones still has an official visit scheduled for Stanford next month, but he told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he isn’t sure if he’ll take it and that he wouldn’t switch commitments again.

“I don’t know if I’m going to take it anymore,” said Jones, who said the Cardinal wants him to. “It might be a slap in the face to do that after decommitting. I’m still debating.”

No matter what, Jones said he’s going to stick with the Irish.

“I wouldn’t change schools again,” he said. “One change is enough.  If I were to change again, people might start to doubt my loyalty.”

Jones told the Sporting News that he thinks of himself as a wide receiver in the Wes Welker mold.

“I would say my game is similar to that of Wes Welker of New England,” Jones told SN. “I’m not necessarily the biggest and fastest, but I use my talent to the best of my abilities. I’ll take dump passes and screens and turn them into big plays. I’ll be that player that teams don’t really prepare for, but I come in and make clutch plays when the team needs me.”

Jones will be enrolling at the mid-term in January for Notre Dame and is the third wide receiver in this class along with Daniel Smith and Bennett Jackson.  With Kyle Prater still very much on Notre Dame’s radar wide receiver recruiting could get interesting since Notre Dame probably wasn’t planning on taking four wide receivers, but if they can get a player of the caliber of Prater on board, there’s no way in the world they would turn hm away.

Lastly, here are a couple videos of Jones showcasing his playmaking ability from Rivals.

  1. Sounds like this kid is a bit confused. I doubt he changes again though. His father is probably happy with the change.

    1. Whoops, sorry about that. The type was in the original article I pulled the quote from and I didn’t see it. It’s fixed now, thanks.
