Notre Dame Football Highlights: ND 50, Syracuse 33

Notre Dame finally got back in the win column on Saturday with a 50-33 win over Syracuse at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  Notre Dame came in reeling following back to back losses and the dismissal of their defensive coordinator but the Irish steadied the ship – at least for a week – with an offensive explosion and some steady improvement on defense.

Notre Dame was led by Deshone Kizer’s career high 471 yards and five touchdowns of 50 yards or more.  Greg Hudson made his debut as the interim defensive coordinator for the Irish and while  the defense was shaky early, they came out strong on the second half and limited the Orange to just six points over the final 30 minutes.

Notre Dame didn’t fix all of its problems this week – they had entirely too many to fix them all in a week – but the Irish got a win they can build on.

Plenty more to follow.

Pete, the reason Kelly can’t get the stud d-linemen and d-backs in is that those positions are typically played by peacocks who are accustomed to having most things handed to them and who need their egoes continuously stroked. If they broke done college GPA’s via position those two would likely be the lowest. Probably can’t get the majority in school and doubtful they want to come to a place where real class room work will get in the way of their adoring fans. That said, you’re right, we certainly do need them.

Notre Dame will not contend until Kelly brings in a top flight special teams coach , a great d coordinator and moves Denbrock to coach all receivers including tight ends, fire Booker and let Sanford have complete control of the offense. Oh and recruit some studs on the dline. Watch ohio State, Alabama, Washington, Michigan, clemson, houston Louisville. Those teams d lines are so much faster and stronger, tougher then Notre Dames it is not even close.

Well we found a defense worse than ND’s.

Year 7 and your Spring Camp and your Summer Camp yield this: a talented defense that doesn’t know exactly what to do. Tackling that is fundamentally sloppy. Special teams that have issues on two units. An offensive line that is very inconsistent.

It’s great for the kids that they got the win but…..

When will there be a season without glaring issues that need to be fixed in the middle of the season?

When will the head coach have a solid program in which he and his staff have all details under control?

I feel sorry for DeShone Kizer. He should be in the Heisman mix with his exceptional play but he has no shot.
