Sporting News Tabs West Breakout Player

george-west.jpgIn a list of breakout players for the upcoming season, Sporting News tabbed sophomore wide receiver George West as one of “five players who will be household names by the end of this season

WR George West, So., Notre Dame. We didn’t see the full scope of Charlie Weis’ offense at Notre Dame the past two seasons because the Irish lacked deep speed. West isn’t the biggest guy (5-8, 188), but since when does height matter in college football? He has blazing speed (4.3 40) and if he becomes more consistent in his routes, he will thrive in Weis’ offense — no matter who is throwing the ball.

In the limited practice video that has been available, West has looked pretty good. Of all the wide receivers, he seems to go through the agility drills with the most ease which has me excited to see him with the ball in the open field where he can use some of the “shake and bake” Weis has mentioned a couple times. West will be challenged by some of the other young wide receivers for that 2nd wide receiver spot, but at the end of spring, Charlie Weis had said that West had separated himself from the pack.
