The 2013 Fighting Irish were back on the practice field on Wednesday after returning from Easter break.  The Irish are approaching the midway point of the 2013 spring practice and position battles are heating up.

Here is a video recap of practice put out by Notre Dame.  There isn’t a whole much to glean from the video although there are some good one on one match-ups towards the end of the receivers and defensive backs.  Keivarae Russell looks like he hasn’t lost a beat from last year.  Some other observations:

  • Cam McDaniel was seen catching a few passes while lined up as a wide receiver.  I’ve mentioned him as a possibility in the slot a couple of times now and it seems he’ll get a look as a receiver.
  • Romeo Okwara definitely looks like a LB.  Brian Kelly let him lead the team chant before practice and he has the look of LB, not a DE.  I’ve thought for a while that he could grow into a DE, but it doesn’t look like DE is in his near future at all.
  • CJ Prosise looks good in wide receiver blocking drills right now.  #20 could a big target for Golson if he picks up the position in spring and fall camps.
  • Nice catch by Corey Robinson (#88) around the 1:35 mark.

Reading these articles about spring practice makes be want real football to come tomorrow. The return of Golson, watching Robinson, Nix, Tuitt, and Bryant will be a pleasure this season. It sounds like the offensive future is bright but we all know that the “D” is what makes or breaks a season! Hopefully the “D” will be up for the task. I can’t wait……hurry up and get here College Football 2014! Go Irish!
