Rationale Behind Notre Dame’s 2014 Shamrock Series Uniforms
Yesterday Notre Dame and Under Armour released the 2014 Shamrock Series uniform to fairly positive reviews. I haven’t had time to really post my thoughts on full uniform yet since a blogger only has so much time when Notre Dame releases new uniforms on media day and I couldn’t help but write about how Brian Kelly doesn’t want to lose to Michigan once I heard that last night. Me either, Brian. Me either.
Anyway, back to important matters – the Notre Dame Shamrock Series uniforms. Every year the Shamrock Series uniforms get released and about half the fan base loves them while the other half hates them – just like just about everything else *cough* FieldTurf *cough*. Love them or hate them this year, you have to respect Under Armour for putting some serious though behind this year uniform.
The below below highlights the process and inspiration for their first crack at an alternate uniform for Notre Dame in their first year of their apparel agreement with the University. The Golden Dome, both inside and out, provided Under Armour with their inspiration this year. After previous iterations looking sometimes sharp and sometimes questionable from Adidas, it’ll be interesting to see what Under Armour comes up with next year.
Under Armour did a good job with the standard home and away Notre Dame jerseys as well keeping them very simple and traditional.

I was thinking, how about a uniform based off the Irish Guard?

They’re a vital part of ND Culture and their look would provide a wild yet traditional Shamrock Series uniform.
I’m thinking a jet black helmet with a gold ND inside of it.
Yellow/Red Stripe Shoulders
Red Jerseys
Blue Tartan Pants
White gloves, shoes, belts.
Red pattern socks
Maybe the pants and jersey colors could be swapped out a bit, but I think something based off the guard would be pretty cool.
DO THEY USE THIS NEW SAFETY FIRST SHUTTVISION HELMET?
The stripe and the interlocking ND are awful.
Those uniforms are going to look great if we beat Michigan, Florida State, USC, Stanford and the teams we are supposed to beat. Those uniforms are going to look like turd with gold trim we lose those games…
I wish they would just leave the helmet gold but make the face mask blue. No need to put the ND on the side or the strip, makes them look like North Dakota
Yes, Im confused with north dakota.. *rolleyes*
Not sure about the strip (guess I’d have to see it in action)
But the facemask is awesome!
I don’t like the strip and the ND on the helmet. I liked the old shamrock on the helmet.
I don’t dislike the uni’s but I can say I don’t like the strip down the center of the helmet.
