Anthony Barr, the son of Tony Brooks and nephew of Reggie Brooks, will be visting unofficially today for the Stanford game.  Barr will be one of the most sought after recruits next year as either a running back or possibly even as a defensive end.

With a bye on the schedule this weekend, elite junior Anthony Barr (Los Angeles, Calif./ Loyola) will take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame.

Barr, an ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect, has been as impressive as any junior in the state this year. The 6-3, 225-pound running back has been unstoppable in every game the Cubs have played, rushing for 809 yards and 10 touchdowns in four games this season.

It has been well documented how many ties Barr has to Notre Dame. His father is former Irish All-American running back Tony Brooks, his uncle Reggie also played in the backfield for the Irish and both still live in South Bend.

Throw in the fact that his mother Lori Barr graduated from St. Mary’s, and you can see why the Irish will be tough to beat. Notre Dame, USC, UCLA and Stanford have all offered the talented athlete, who will likely end up on the defense in college.

While Barr’s rushing statistics are very impressive, some think that he mght be able to make an even bigger impact on the defensive side of the ball as a defensive end.  In that sense he reminds me a little bit of TJ Duckett years back.  Most people felt he would be a big time linebacker on the college level, but Michigan State recruited him as a running back and he had a great career for the Spartans.

Wherever he ends up playing, he will be a very pivitl recruit for us next year and our biggest competition will be coming from USC.   Hopefully Tony and Reggie will be in Anthony’s ear this weekend on his unofficial trip to Notre Dame.

  1. I have seen A-Barr several times over the past two years. His speed and power are incredible. He would make an impact immediately at N.D.
