Colin Cowherd trigger warning: we are about to talk about Colin Cowherd.  The Herd, who Notre Dame fans hate as he mentions in this clip, had on FOX analyst Joel Klatt on earlier this week and both agreed that 1) Notre Dame is a serious contender and 2) this Notre Dame team is better than the 2012 squad that played for the national championship.

The most interesting thing I took from this video was that both Cowherd and Klatt said that if Notre Dame and Clemson were both undefeated at the end of the year, they both would put the Irish in the playoffs over Clemson.

Reminder, Herd has historically not been high on Notre Dame.  In fact, he has never passed up an opportunity to say that Notre Dame was overrated.  Klatt meanwhile has a bit of a history with not being kind to Notre Dame as well.  Brady Quinn put Klatt on blast last year for a lazy, hot take on the Irish.

Hey Colin…Michigan is not a good team. Michigan sucks – and that’s beyond the usual NotreDame-refrain. Your prejudice is both irrational and WRONG!

Way too much love for us right now. Cowherd endorsement is typically the kiss of death. Likely we see an off night from Book and either get upset of barely eek out a victory. Hope our resolve wins it in the 4th quarter.

That is about my view on it all. It’s just the way it is.
I’d only adjust one thing in the whole clip: 1964, 1970, and 1980 all scream to us older ND fans that ending @USC is not going to be a case where we dominate, or even win. On the other hand, 1966 and 1988 do argue for us to dominate. Either way, although non-Notre Dame fans may see it as over, we know better.

If everyone stays healthy the Irish are in the mix. Already we have been getting reserves up in the front lines. Hope that trends stops.

Nope. Not buying the hype yet. Not until the closing whistle on USC. I’ve seen this story before. Start strong, get your hopes up only to come crashing down in November.

And the players need to ignore all the background noise. Just worry about VT this week. Nothing else matters.

I like what I’ve seen out of the Irish the last 2 weeks, but I’ll maintain a healthy dose of skepticism until all the games are played.

Just play well from week to week and let the chips fall where they may. Lots of football left to play and a lot could and will happen.

I am with you Pete. I don’t want to talk about the playoffs right now. ND is 5-0 which is great. The next step in this process is to go 6-0. First things first.
