Notre Dame’s junior weekend has been paying off dividends and it’s not even officially over yet.  On Sunday Notre Dame picked up its third commitment of the week in the form of running back Tony Jones – a 4-star prospect out of Florida.

Jones, ranked as the #12 rated running back according to 247 Sports, committed to Notre Dame while on attending the junior day.  Prior to selecting the Irish, Jones picked up scholarship offers from Miami, North Carolina, Pitt, South Carolina, and Ole Miss.

Jones continues Notre Dame’s string of running backs from the Sunshine State joining incoming freshman Josh Adams and rising juniors Tarean Folston and Greg Bryant.  Notre Dame’s previous success luring running backs out of talent rich Florida State started under former running backs coach Tony Alford, and it looks like it will continue under Autry Denson – a one time prep All-American running back from Florida himself.

At 6’0′, 212 lbs already, Jones is a big running back with good top end speed.  He projects as more of a between the tackles, tough yards type of running back as opposed to a home run threat.  As a junior Jones ran for 771 yards with 12 touchdowns for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

With only 4 scholarship running backs on the roster this year, look for Notre Dame to add another running back in addition to Jones in this class.

Earlier this weekend Notre Dame picked up a commitment from 3-star defensive back Julian Love and long snapper John Shannon according to multiple sources.  The trio of commitments gives Notre Dame four total members of the class of 2016 at this time.

  2. I saw this guy in his Under the Radar Spotlight vid. He is a monster of a back, will he get bigger? Scary. The first piece of a game footage has a touchdown up the middle that shows a lot like the guy in This guy scores between the tackles, around the edges, ect. Nice Job, Coach Densen!!!

  3. I watched his highlight film….very impressive! Really liked his willingness and ability to block, as well.

  4. Let’s not get all caught up in the details here. I’m sure the sun shines in the state of Pennsylvania on occasion.

  5. Good article and I love seeing Coach Denson already getting a recruit out of Florida. In the article switch Josh Adams with Dexter Williams for RBs coming from the Sunshine State.
