Laws, Abiamiri To See More Playing Time
Former Notre Dame defensive linemen Trevor Laws and Victor Abiamiri should both see more playing time this weekend for the Philadelphia Eagles. Abiamiri will be seeing his first action after missing the first five games with a wrist injury and will play about 10-15 snaps according to Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson as both a defensive end and defensive tackle.
Laws meanwhile will see his playing time increase significantly with the Eagles moving DT Dan Klecko to fullback. Laws had seen some sparing playing time this year and would have had a sack in week one if he wasn’t held on the play.
Johnson would like to work Abiamiri in for 10 to 15 snaps. Rookie defensive tackle Trevor Laws, who lined up next to Abiamiri three years ago at Notre Dame, figures to get considerable playing time rotating in with starters Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley. “The plays are coming,” Laws said. “It’s just a matter of getting used to this defense.” Abiamiri wouldn’t be surprised to get snaps at end, although under-achieving free agent addition Chris Clemons likely will get most of the time there if starter Juqua Parker has to shut it down.
The Eagles are a little banged up along the defensive line as well with starting DE Jaqua Parker questionable for Sunday. Philly has used second round picks in back to back drafts on Abiamiri and Laws and have high hopes for the former Irish standouts. Hopefully this weekend both start to show some of the potential the Eagles saw in them when they invested the second round picks on them.
