Notre Dame Football Injury Report: Moore, Viliamu-Asa Questionable vs. Stanford

Notre Dame could be without two more defensive starters Saturday against Stanford. Cornerback Leonard Moore (concussion) and linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (left thumb) are listed as questionable on Monday’s availability update. Both were hurt in Saturday’s 37-26 win at North Carolina.

Those two tags land on a defense that is already down two starters. Safety Brauntae Johnson (left foot) and defensive lineman Jason Onye (left ankle) are ruled out again. Both went down in the first half of the opener against Wisconsin, and Stanford will be the fifth straight game each has missed. Not even being questionable for this weekend likely means there is little chance either will be available for the BYU game in two weeks as well though that will remain to be seen.

If Moore and Viliamu-Asa can’t go, the Irish would face Stanford without four defensive starters. Neither has been ruled out. Questionable leaves their status open for later in the week. With the Irish heavy favorites over Stanford, look for the staff to be very cautious with both stars.

Augustine Moves to Questionable

There is some movement on the offensive line. Matty Augustine (right foot) is questionable after being ruled out for every game so far this season. He was hurt during fall camp. Sullivan Absher has been starting at right guard and after the offensive line finally found its footing in the run game, it will be interesting to see how the staff handles Augustine’s return. Before his injury he was considered the odds on favorite to win the starting RG job.

Owen Strebig is off the report entirely. The tackle was listed as questionable last week with a concussion.

Still Out

Five players remain out and have yet to suit up this season. That group includes offensive linemen Charles Jagusah (left humerus) and Chris Terek (right knee), defensive linemen Christopher Burgess Jr. (left tibia) and Tiki Hola (right knee), and defensive back Chaz Smith (right wrist).

Wide receiver Quincy Porter, whose season-ending injury was announced last week, does not appear. Notre Dame only lists new additions to the out-for-the-season category on the weekly update.

Notre Dame (5-0) hosts Stanford for the Legends Trophy in a Green Out at Notre Dame Stadium.
