Ianello Linked to Syracuse Opening

Mike Haywood isn’t the only Notre Dame assistant coach whose name is being linked to a head coaching vacancy this week.  Irish wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello’s name has been linked to the Syracuse head coaching position which opened up Sunday when the Orange fired Greg Robinson.   Several sources have reported that Ianello is likely a candidate for Syracuse.

Earlier this week Charlie Weis talked Ianello up during his weekly Tuesday press conference.

I hate to lose any of my coaches, and ever talk about losing a guy. But I think there’s several guys on my staff that I think would end up being good head football coaches. But Rob has a unique niche in the fact that he’s got a reputation of being one of the best recruiters in college football. I think any time you’re building a program, one of the things you’ll have to be able to do is recruit.

I’m not in the market of trying to push people out the door, because I need Rob. But if they were to come calling, I would give him my blessing.

It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out over the next several weeks.  Replacing Ianello would not be easy.  He’s done a terrific job with the young wide receivers and is one of the premier recruiting coordinators in the country.

Yeah, losing Latina would be a plus. Not sure about Ianello other than the recruiting. weis needs his coaches to get more out of the players first. Then I’ll agree that recruiting matters. too many teams that beat us were nowhere near the recruiting rank ND has had. ND better be among the elite next year, and I mean top 6 or Weis better hope a Tennessee, syracuse, or Washington job are there for the asking.

Ianello and Haywood I wish would stay, give them a raise, Charlie. Fire Latina! The line just sucks, and they have sucked the time he has been at ND.

Losing Rob would stink. Any chance there’s a program out there interested in Latina?????
