’09 UHND Opponent Poll – Week 2

Michigan rises to the second spot in the UHND Opponent Poll this week while last week’s #2 Michigan State tumbles after getting upset at home by Central Michigan.  USC meanwhile keeps its stranglehold on the top spot and Washington State continues to come in last on all ballots.

We also picked up a new voter this week – UHND Podcast co-host Jeff Felix.

2009 UHND Opponent Poll

Opponent Record Last Week Next Comments
1. #4 Southern Cal
Trojans
2-0 1 @ Washington (9/19) USC escaped Columbus with a win over Ohio State this weekend and looks like it has a nasty defense again this year.
2. Michigan
Wolverines
2-0 4 vs. Eastern Michigan (9/19) Tate Forcier led Michigan in their win over the Irish this weekend. Year two of Rich Rodriguez is looking good for Michigan fans. I guess practice does make perfect.
3. pitt-helmet.jpg Pitt
Panthers
2-0 2 vs. Navy (9/19) Pitt pulled away late from Buffalo with a couple late touchdowns, but will get a tough test with Navy this weekend.
4. Boston College
Eagles
2-0 4 @ Clemson (9/19) Boston College took care of Kent State with a 34-7 victory. A visit to Death Valley to face Clemson looms for the untested Eagles.
4. Navy
Midshipmen
1-1 6 @ Pitt (9/19) Navy bounced back with a nice win over Louisiana Tech and looks to have a passing threat in Ricky Dobbs.
6. Michigan State
Spartans
1-1 2 @ Notre Dame (9/19) Michigan State didn’t look sharp in their home loss to Central Michigan. Still, they will play next week like it’s the Super Bowl.
7. washington-helmet.jpg Washington
Huskies
1-1 8 vs. #3 USC (9/19) Jake Locker might mean more for his team than another other player in the country. He’ll need a Herculean effort for UW to pull off the upset of Southern Cal this weekend though.
8. Purdue
Boilermakers
1-1 10 vs. Northern Illinois (9/19) Purdue almost escaped Outzen Stadium with a victory, but came up just short. The Boilermakers are running the ball very well so far this year.
9. Stanford
Cardinal
1-1 7 vs. San Jose State (9/19) Stanford didn’t look great last weekend and then got outscored 21-0 in the second half in their loss to Wake Forest Saturday.
10. UConn
Huskies
1-1 11 @ Baylor (9/19) UConn lost their upset bid of UNC because of a holding call in the endzone resulting in a safety. Ouch.
11. Nevada
Wolf Pack
0-1 9 @ Colorado State (9/19) Nevada should get back on track against Colorado State after having a bye this past weekend.
12. Washington State
Cougars
0-2 12 vs. SMU (9/19) Washington State gave up over 600 yards of offense. Their defense + perfect conditions in a dome could = a big game for Clausen on Halloween.

Notre Dame’s offense won’t be stopped by anyone except maybe USC. The last sentence under Michigan concerning practice should be removed. Notre Dame fans are better than that , tip your hat and move on. Nothing has changed for ND, run the table and you’ll be in a BCS BOWL likely the NC against my GATORS. We will find out this week how much of an effect the Michigan lost has on ND…because on talent alone ND should beat State by at least 2 TD’S.

You have Purdue listed at 2-0. They are indeed 1-1.

Make that a Navy win over Louisiana Tech. A win over Louisiana State probably lifts you over Pitt and Boston College in the rankings.
