With Notre Dame on the bye this weekend, Charlie Weis was in attendance on Friday night to see Manti Te’o put on a show in a 49-7 win for his Buffanblu High School team.
The Honolulu Advertiser reported Saturday:
Weis arrived in Honolulu around 2 p.m. yesterday — sitting next to Gov. Linda Lingle on his flight — and headed back to the Mainland at 8 p.m., but during the short visit he got to see first-hand why Te’o is regarded by some as the nation’s No. 1 linebacker prospect.
Te’o made about a dozen tackles to help the Buffanblu hold ‘Iolani to just 10 yards rushing in a 49-7 victory, and also showed off his versatility and athleticism by playing fullback and scoring on touchdown runs of 14 and 15 yards, plus a 17-yard TD reception and 46-yard return of a blocked punt for a score.
Te’o is one of a handful of prospects left on Notre Dame’s recruiting board on the defensive side of the ball and he might be right atop the Irish coaching staff’s list. Te’o, along with fellow linebacker recruit Jelani Jenkins, has the abiity to make an immediate impact at linebacker for the Irish next fall.  The fact that Weis went all the way out to Hawaii to take in Te’o’s game Friday shows how important of a recruit he feels Te’o is. The Honolulu Advertiser lso reported that Weis has gone to high school games for just two players this fall – his son Charlie, Jr. and Manti Teo.
As much as I’d love to see manti in a notre dame uniform, I don’t think it’s a real possibility the three biggest factors we have going against us is the fact that he’s a LDS and really likes BYU, he doesn’t want to play in a 3-4 system and it’s by far the furthest away from home. Maybe god will prove the catholics are right and go ahead and send him to notre dame anyway… ha
im telling you whoever gets this kid is in great shape he will be better, much better than ray mauoluga, and james laurenitis… much better.
Charlie may not land M. Teo but his tremendous work ethic is not lost on these top recruits…
If we get a kid from Hawaii to come to ND Charlie is a God. Not THE God but definitely a God.
