Rueland Probably Won’t Travel This Weekend, May Redshirt

konrad reuland4Former Notre Dame tight end Konrad Reuland is eligible to play for Stanford after sitting out the first four games of the season after his transfer from Notre Dame last fall, but he probably won’t be making the trip to South Bend with Stanford this weekend as the #4 tight end for the Cardinal.  In fact, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh, the former five star recruit might redshirt this year.

“I’ve talked to him about it,” Coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Right now, we have three other tight ends who are doing well, and we feel like we’re in good shape there. He’s got three (years) to play two. But there is no guarantee of a redshirt. If we get a couple of tight ends hurt, he’s going to play.”

According to the SBT, Harbaugh was supposed to decide on Wednesday whether or not Reuland would be on the travel roster.

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh is expected to decide today whether to add Notre Dame transfer Konrad Reuland to the travel roster.  Since the tight end from Mission Viejo, Calif., started the season and played in games for the Irish in 2007 before transferring, he wasn’t eligible to play for the Cardinal until last week’s Washington game, per NCAA transfer rules. And he did not make the trip to Seattle for that game.

Considering all of the depth problems at tight end facing Notre Dame after losing Mike Ragone to an injury and possibly losing Will Yeatman for subtantial time after it was reported Wednesday that he will face charges on his spring DUI charges now, it seems quite ironic that Reuland’s first potential trip back to South Bend could be this weekend.

Despite the depth problems facing the Irish at the position now, Reualnd is still very happy with his decision according to the Chicago Sun Times.

”I couldn’t be happier with my situation,” Reuland said. ”It was the best thing for me personally.”

”I haven’t been back since I left,” he said. ”It would be a weird feeling being back and seeing all my old teammates and smelling the air out there. It even smells different. It would definitely take me back.”
