Notre Dame offered 4-star athlete Connor Wedington last month after the versatile playmaker decided to decommit from Washington.  The Irish are now in Wedington’s top 5 and will get an official visit later this month.  Wedington will decide on National Signing Day between Notre Dame, Baylor, Stanford, UCLA, and Washington.

Notre Dame is recruiting Wedington as a pure athlete but his future will either be at running back or defensive back.  The Washington native excelled at both positions as a senior and picked up 1,460 yards rushing with 19 touchdowns.  At 5’11’, 185 lbs, Wedington has the size to be a dynamic corner in Mike Elko’s defense.

Wedington had been committed to instate Washington for months. but backed off of that commitment in December.   At the time  most analysts reported that Stanford was the leader for his services.  Wedington’s top 5, however, will all get a fair look between now and NSD.

Notre Dame can sell Wedington on playing on either side of the ball.   Notre Dame will implement a new defense under  Elko and a has new offensive coordinator in Chuck Long implementing Brian Kelly’s offense.

Wedington is a consensus 4-star recruit and the #210 overall prospect in the class of 2017 in 247 Sports’s Top 247.

Wedington’s Versatility a Huge Plus

Notre Dame already has a dynamic running back in Corey Holmes set to enroll early later this month, but the only corner in this class is Paulson Adebo.  Adebo impressed this week at the Under Armour All-American bowl at receiver.  , A signature from Wedington could allow Notre Dame to test Adebo at wide receiver if they are unable to make up for the recent loss of Jordan Pouncey.

This will be one to watch over the final month of this recruiting cycle as Notre Dame looks to fill out this class. Expect a flurry of late offers from Notre Dame between now and Signing Day.  With all of the new coaches on staff and roster positions opening, Notre Dame will leave no rock left uncovered as they attempt to keep this class in the Top 10.

  1. 31-0. That’s a great showing from the legendary Urban Meyer. I would wait and see what the new coaching staff can do. If they flop again (which I do not believe they will do), then bounce em. My only real concern is defensive line, but who knows? They have plenty of bodies, but the talent level? I can’t say, I am not at practice with the coaches. I would say that between Tillery, Cage, Jay Hayes, Kareem, and Daelin Hayes…maybe, just maybe. I have given up on Trumbetti or add 30 pounds to him and move him inside. Plus we have Darnell Ewell coming in. Wildcard: Elijah Taylor.

One more year…patience…more patience. After this? Maybe issue BK his walking papers, but don’t do it without someone to replace him with. What’s that saying? Never leave a job without another one to go to.

    Take Care Gentlemen.
