Notre Dame men’s basketball team still has a pulse thanks to Matt Farrell’s heroics on Saturday afternoon.  Notre Dame’s leader drained a game winning three pointer from well beyond the three point line as time was winding down.  Farrell’s clutch shot left the Irish up three points with less than six seconds left on the clock and with a faint pulse in their quest for a NCAA Tournament bid.

Notre Dame’s loss to Miami earlier this week left the Irish’s NCAA tournament bids looking grim.  They couldn’t afford a loss to either Wake Forest yesterday or Pitt later this week to have any chance and still either need an upset of #1 Virginia or a deep run in the ACC Tournament to still be dancing in March.

Those are problems for another day, however thanks for Farrell’s big shot.  He ended the game with 21 points and 6 assists.  Martinas Geben had another monster performance as well with 22 points and 14 rebounds.  Geben now has double digits points in 11 of the last 13 games.  TJ Gibbs chipped in 20 points as the “big three” contributed 63 of Notre Dame’s 76 points.

Notre Dame returns to action on Wednesday against Pitt in another must win game.  Tip off is 7:00 and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Indeed Farrell ‘rises to the occasion”. And Gebben and T.J. and Fluegger and Burns this game. Farrell is the leader, but it was a great team win.
