Highlights from Notre Dame’s Shutout, Blowout of Bowling Green

Notre Dame delivered its second blowout of the season on Saturday afternoon ina  52-0 shutout of overmatched Bowling Green.  The Irish offense did mainly whatever they wanted against old friend Brian Vangorder’s hapless defense while the Notre Dame offense notched its first shutout since a 37-0 (#rememberthesix) blanking of Michigan in 2014.

Ian Book had perhaps the most efficient day of his career with a 16 of 20 passing day for 261 yards with 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions on the day.  Those five scores were spread around pretty evenly with Book connecting with Chase Claypool for two and then Javon McKinley, Cole Kmet, and Tommy Tremble for one each.

All in all it was a great day for Notre Dame.  They blew out a team they should blow out.  They recorded a shutout.  They got to empty the benches including Phil Jurkovec‘s first career touchdown pass.  We’ll have plenty more on this one today.

  1. offense was very good minus the first drive of the game but I’m keeping things in perspective it was Bowling Green who Kent State scored 60 points on them just last week. The way I see things right now Notredame is a very good team top 10 for sure but a notch below Alabama Georgia Clemson Ohio State LSU and Oklahoma. Defense is right there and maybe even better than a couple of those teams.Offense not on those teams level. They asked Kelly before the season what has to happen for Notredame to win a national championship this year.He said offense has to go to another level and young receivers and running backs need to emerge as explosive playmakers. With that being said I hope Kelly gives these young guys a chance Michael Young Braden Lenzy Lawrence Keys all need to be starting. Play Finke on punt returns only or in the slot at times play Tony Jones on the goal line same with Mckinley. All we heard as fans in the spring was how unguardable Keys Young and Lenzy were especially on crossing routes jet sweeps screens etc.Well get them out there. Also the quarterback is the most important position on the field.Well guess what the top 6 teams in the country have the six best quarterbacks in the country.
